About Us
Registered member of the General Osteopathic Council, British Osteopathic Association and British Medical Acupuncture Society.
I originally qualified in Psychology from Wolverhampton University in 1997, but I'd always had an keen interest in Osteopathy after being treated by an Osteopath as a young teenager following the acute onset of Osgood Schlatters Disease (a debilitating knee problem).
As such I decided to pursue a career in Osteopathy, and I graduated from Oxford Brookes University in 2003. I have been registered with the General Osteopathic Council ever since.
My time is spent between private practices in Northfield and Burntwood, and I also work as an Occupational Osteopath with Carl Zeiss Vision.
I have additional qualifications in both Acupuncture and Electro-Acupuncture, and I have completed training in Emergency First aid, Myo-fascial massage and advanced Ergonomics. I am due to commence my training treating animals in 2013.
I regularly keep up-to date with current Osteopathic thinking by attending a variety of courses around the UK, fulfilling my Professional Development requirements as stipulated by the regulator.
I have extensive experience in treating sportsmen and women of all levels and ages, from amateur footballers and semi-professional athletes, to professional power-lifters, body-builders and international kick-boxers.
Professionally, my main interests are centred around Arthritis and its associated pain and problems, Occupational / Ergonomic / Postural issues, and Sports Injuries.
Our Treatments
Current guidelines from NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) now recommend both manual therapy (including spinal manipulation, spinal mobilisation and massage) and acupuncture in the treatment of lower back pain.
As an Osteopath I treat with an understanding that your body acts as a whole unit. In order for optimum health to be achieved, the body as a unit needs attention. That could be in the form of soft-tissue techniques, muscular/skeletal adjustment, joint mobilisation, stretching, dietary advice, exercise programmes, or just advice on the best direction to take. Treatments are tailored to suit the individual and by using these techniques we can achieve better function and less pain. Should MRI scans be needed, these can be sourced quickly to an outside provider.
Once your treatment plan has ended, it will be important for you to continue with exercises aimed at maintaining both flexibility, strength and stability.
Osteopathy
What is it?
Osteopathy is a system of manual therapy that diagnoses and treats a variety of conditions by working on the structure and function of the body. Osteopaths believe that if the bones, joints, muscles and ligaments are not functioning correctly, then the mobility of the body's tissues and fluids will become hampered, and this will lead to poor function and problems.
What do we do?
Although Osteopaths treat a variety of conditions, most people think of Osteopaths as 'back specialists' but Osteopathy is not just about having a 'bad back'. Osteopathy is suitable for everyone of all ages and from all backgrounds.
Here are just some of the conditions that can be helped:- Lower Back Pain
- Sciatica
- Slipped Discs
- Neck Pain
- Joint Pain (Shoulders/Hips/Knees)
- Arthritic Pain
- Muscle Spasm
- Headaches
- Upper Back Pain
- Sports Injuries
- Whiplash
- Repetitive Strain Injuries (RSI)
- Golf/Tennis Elbow
- Sprains
- Poor Posture
With the overall aim being to:- Reduce your pain and inflammation
- Improve and restore your mobility by reducing stiffness
- Decrease nerve pain and improve blood supply
- Improve your blood supply and increase health in general
Acupuncture
The type of Acupuncture that I use is Western Medical Acupuncture which is a therapeutic modality that involves the insertion of fine needles.
It is adapted from Chinese acupuncture using current knowledge of anatomy physiology and pathology.
It acts mainly by stimulating the nerves in skin, muscle and other tissues and is used to treat a variety of symptoms including musculo-skeletal pains and myofascial trigger point pain.
There is also an increased release of the body's natural painkillers, including endorphin and serotonin, in the pathways of both the spinal cord and the brain.
It has been successfully used to treat the following:- Headaches
- Migraines
- Trapped nerves
- Chronic muscle strains
- Arthritic pain
All members of the British Medical Acupuncture Society are registered healthcare professionals with orthodox training in Western medical practices, who have undergone recognised acupuncture training.
Members are subject to the Society’s Code of Practice and Complaints Procedure in addition to statutory regulation within their primary profession.
Ergonomics
“Ergonomics is the application of scientific information concerning humans to the design of objects, systems and environment for human use”
Essentially Ergonomics is all about ensuring a good fit between people, the things that they do, the products that they use and the environments in which the work, travel and play. It is important to understand that the needs, abilities and limitations of individuals differs significantly from person to person.
Are you sitting comfortably?
In many cases, humans can adapt to unsuitable conditions, but such adaptations often lead to inefficiency, stress, and physical or mental cost.
The Benefits of Ergonomics:- Reduces Injury through improving posture, blood supply, and reducing stress on the muscles and joints.
- Reduces Absenteeism.
- Encourages a better employer/employee relationship.
- Improved productivity and efficiency through job satisfaction.
- Improved User experiences
- A Legal requirement via Health and Safety law.

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear?
As with any medical examination, you may be asked to undress to your underwear, so please wear something you are comfortable in.
Can I bring a friend or relative?
Yes – if you wish, you can have someone present throughout your consultation and treatment.
Does it hurt?
Some soft tissue treatment may cause discomfort during treatment. I will explain to you what to expect, and I would like you to let me know if you are in pain. You may feel a little stiff or sore after treatment which is a normal, healthy response to the treatment.
Do I need to see my doctor first?
You do not need to see your doctor first if you are paying for your own treatment. However, some insurance companies require you to see your doctor first. Osteopathy is available on the NHS in some areas – and national guidelines say it should be available everywhere for low back pain. The British Medical Association has officially acknowledged Osteopathy as a treatment method for Lower Back Pain.
How many treatments will I need?
The number of treatments you will need depends on the condition and person being treated. I will aim to keep appointments to a minimum, and I should be able to tell within a short period of time whether I can treat you or if you need to be referred to someone else.
