East Asian Traditional Medicine
I use a range on techniques from Chinese, Japanese and Korean acupuncture, though I specialise in Japanese shallow and contact acupuncture which is a non invasive approach to minimise discomfort without compromising efficacy. Treatments tend to comprise of a combination of acupuncture and moxibustiion with or without herbs and bodywork.
Typically people come to see me with a range of complaints such as:
- musculo skeletal [back pain, joint pain, arthritis, sciatica, neck and shoulder pain, headaches],
- emotional [depression, anxiety etc]
- hormonal [including male and female infertility, menstrual problems/pain, PMS, migraines, menopause]
- digestion [IBS, constipation, loose stools]
- also respiratory problems, colds, coughs, sleep problems and also a general lack of energy and fatigue.
Traditional East Asian medicine treats a wide range of disorders, what characterises them is that they tend to be of a functional nature, the body is not physically damaged its just not working harmoniously.
Sometimes this can lead to several simultaneous problems that people simply put up with or that Doctors can offer no simple solutions for. This kind of therapy is not invasive and is largely side effect free. It can be taken alongside conventional medications/treatment and beyond treating your symptom can lead to increased sense of relaxation and well being.

Croydon and Purley acupuncture practice opened in September 2000 with the aim of providing high quality acupuncture treatments for people in the Croydon area.
The practice was set up by Tony Todd and is based at the Buddhist Centre, Croydon High Street.
The Treatment
Traditional East Asian therapies are for anyone who wants to feel healthier.
They could be having troubling symptoms or they might be in good shape but want to continue to be so and reduce the likelihood of getting ill. Whatever the condition acupuncture, shiatsu and traditional herbal formulas can help the body to make the best of what it’s got.
For many problems of a functional nature this might be all that is required, in more serious cases of organic disease traditional East Asian therapies can be used alongside Western medicine to strengthen the body’s ability to cope with the effects of medication as well as fighting illness.
QUALIFICATION DETAILS
My acupuncture training was a 4 year course at the International College of Oriental Medicine, graduating in 2000 and joining the British Acupuncture Council the same year.
Prior to that I had been educated to post graduate level in the sciences and worked in education before getting interested in Chinese medicine and training in Shiatsu and massage.
Since graduating in 2000 I have studied with a number of experienced teachers in Europe and Japan, and have expanded my interests to include Chinese and Japanese Herbal medicine. I am also a member of the Register for Chinese Herbal medicine.
I am also a registered instructor of Li family Tai Ji Chuan and Lam style Chi Gong.
