Dave Rogers
State Registered Art Therapist
Dave Rogers
I have worked as a professional and trained art therapist for 20years.
My enthusiasm for art therapy comes from seeing how much clients gain through the use of basic art materials.
I believe that exploring art materials and discovering your own values is a vital route to self-fulfilment and helpful insights.
Having the time to explore, play and work with art materials is a valuable approach to healing and wellbeing.
My training and experience gives me a strong trust that the relationship image between art making, therapist and client working together provides a rich dynamic of potential change for the client.
I have continued to paint and have found satisfaction and personal growth in the process of the often-mysterious power of the creative path.
At times my engrossment in painting raises personal memories and reflection, creates a struggle with how the materials ‘behave’, creates new avenues of thought and emotion.
Continuing my own artwork helps me to understand how my clients might experience similar, or entirely different personal journeys.
My practice as an art therapist has included work in:- the prison service
- a hostel for homeless men
- HIV/Aids hospice
- Acquired brain injury
- Art Therapy training
- Private Practice
- Art therapy supervision
Professional Qualifications
I am registered with the British Association of Art Therapists as a
Private Practitioner and Supervisor.
I originally trained as a technical illustrator for 5 years and then entered art college to gain a diploma in Painting and Sculpture.
During my 30s I trained as a social worker, community worker and youth worker, I was then engaged with community and educational development for over 15 years.
I decided to train in art therapy after a long period of working with homeless people , adults with learning difficulties and community groups. I was finding that my creative and art background was becoming an important aspect of working in these communities.
I completed: - Art Therapy training in 1989
- Art Therapy supervision training in 1998
- Advanced Art Therapy training 1999
I also have an extensive Continual Professional Development record in art therapy, education and coaching.
