Welcome to Moving towards FreedomWHAT IS THE FELDENKRAIS METHOD?
The Feldenkrais method offers a chance to re-experience the way you move in easier and more helpful patterns in order to avoid stress, relieve harmful habits that can cause pain and restore a joy in everyday movement. It can facilitate recovery of movement following injury and can improve movement skills for those involved in Theatre, Music, Dance and Sports. The benefits of this method have been recognised by medical practitioners throughout Europe and the United States.
WHY IS FELDENKRAIS USEFUL?
The Feldenkrais Method is an approach to mind/body integration that improves co-ordination and physical confidence, reduces stress, and helps you move more efficiently. Using simple repetitive and gentle movements, this Method can eliminate chronic pain and improve physical well being.
WHO USES FELDENKRAIS?
Anyone interested in moving better! Those recovering from injury, feeling stiffness in back, knees or ankles or just wanting to avoid future problems in sitting, walking or running.
About Me I have been working in the field of Theatre and the Performing Arts for the last 25 years as an actor, director, writer and teacher. In 1995, I suffered a back injury that left me immobile for 6 weeks. I recovered but was left feeling very stiff and nervous of moving. For an active director and performer, this was disastrous! Luckily, I was introduced to the Feldenkrais Method by another theatre director and I was amazed at how quickly I not only recovered but improved my range of movement as well as my confidence and self esteem.
I am now a qualified teacher/practitioner of the Feldenkrais Method, working with students and professionals in Theatre, Dance, Music and Puppetry as well as individuals from many other walks of life. Recent work has been with runners and walkers from the Yorkshire area; performing arts students at The University Centre Doncaster; puppetry students from Central School of Speech & Drama (CSSD) in London, The London School of Puppetry, theatre students from University of Hull and sports people from a local gym.
I run a regular Sunday class from 11.00-12.00 at Sheffield Yoga Centre, Burgoyne Road, Sheffield. (see my website or http://sheffieldyogacentre.co.uk/sheffield-yoga-centre-groups)
SATURDAY 9th APRIL 2011: Workshop for Flexible Backs and Easier Shoulders. 10.30-12.30 Sheffield Yoga Centre.
I’m interested not only in running classes and individual sessions for people but also in taking Feldenkrais into the workplace. The Feldenkrais Method doesn't need special equipment or outfits - just a comfortable space to sit or lie down - and a chance to take time for yourself. I have students who ask me how often do I do Feldenkrais and I reply “all the time”.
