Welcome to Dynamics of Wellbeing
Below are but a few of the ways stress can manifest in your body. If you have symptoms that aren’t mentioned here, please get in touch and I will be happy to tell you if I can treat them.
Back pain
I can treat most forms of back pain. Depending on the complexity of the symptom, this can take anywhere between 1 and 6 sessions.
Whiplash
I have worked successfully with whiplash many times. Please note that the longer it is left, the more sessions it will require.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome
IRS responds well to Biodynamic Massage because it works directly with the bowel.
Anxiety
I can help with many types of anxiety by calming the organism and strengthening people’s contact with the ground and with themselves.
Chronic Muscular Tension
I can work on any level of muscular tension.
Migraine
I can alleviate if not cure most kinds of headache. A mixture of massage and cranio-sacral work is usually very effective.
Contactlessness
Lots of uncomfortable and even alarming feelings can arise from a lack of or inappropriate contact. My touch is safe and appropriate and therefore reassuring.
Energy Blocks
In contrast to the fixed pattern of many stress-related symptoms, energy blocks usually move around. As well as being able to work on the bone, muscle and skin levels, I can also work at the more subtle energy level.
Loss and Trauma
My style of working can be very helpful to the process of recovery after difficult or unpleasant life events.
These are but a few of the ways stress can manifest in your body. If you have symptoms that aren’t mentioned here, please get in touch and I will be happy to tell you if I can treat them.
Biodynamic Massage
Biodynamic massage therapy involves a broad range of techniques that work not only at the physical level of skin, tissue, muscle and bone, but also at the more subtle level of energy flow in the body.
In health, there is a relatively free flow of energy through the body and the system is balanced. But when the system becomes imbalanced, for whatever reason, blockages can occur in the energy flow that may lead to physical symptoms and ill health.
Biodynamic massage helps to dissolve the blockages of accumulated tension and bring the body’s systems back into balance, leading to improved health and well-being. Working with the effects and origins of stress, it can promote deep relaxation, improve the circulation and increase energy and well-being. It can also help to relieve chronic symptoms, such as headaches, tension, pain, digestive problems and insomnia.
History
Biodynamic massage was first developed in Norway in the 1960’s by Gerda Boyesen. As a clinical psychologist she became interested in the effects of massage on people’s mental health. This led her to train as a physiotherapist and to use massage in her psychology practice.
Boyesen’s unique contribution was discovering how we actually digest unexpressed emotions and the after-effects of stress through our digestive organs. She called this process psycho-peristalsis. A biodynamic massage therapist can listen to the peristaltic sounds of the client’s intestines through a stethoscope to get feedback on how the system is unwinding.
Touch that is sensitive, appropriate and compassionate creates a sense of well-being.
Biodynamic massage therapists are trained to help make sense of both the physical and emotional aspects of daily experiences. Sometimes people get in touch with feelings or memories which help them find a meaning in their current situation, and the massage therapist will give support and space for this process if it is chosen.
Biodynamic massage will increase a client’s awareness of his or her own body. It aims to encourage us to value and trust our bodies as part of our whole self.
It also helps to make connections between mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of our lives. This approach enhances the body’s own self-healing capacity.
During the massage you may remain fully or partly clothed, as you wish. You will be kept warm and comfortable at all times and your privacy is ensured throughout the session.
Although you will feel definite benefits after one session, a sustained change is only ensured by regular sessions.
Vivation
The technique I teach was developed from Vivation®, a method of integrating emotions that was invented by Jim Leonard in 1979. In just two hours I can teach you how to access the feelings and sensations in your body in a way that enables you to be comfortable with them, and thus relax profoundly.
Vivation is the skill of integration. It is a safe and pleasurable technique that effectively resolves the emotional conflicts that cause the tension and stress in our bodies.
The word Vivation is derived from the Latin for life. It means the process of embracing life fully.
Jim Leonard created the Vivation process in California in 1979. After investigating numerous personal growth methods, he developed the means for causing integration and therefore emotional resolution at will.
One way to describe Vivation is to say that it is the act of cultivating our willingness to feel all our feelings honestly and accept the gift of energy each one has for us. It is the art of finding the pleasure within the pain, and making peace with all of our feelings.
Because Vivation works entirely at the feeling level, it has no religious or psychological counterpart. This means it works just as well for Christians, Muslims, Hindus and Buddhists as it does for atheists. Whoever or whatever you are, Vivation will increase your relaxation, your enthusiasm, your courage and your sense of self. It will expand your sense of well-being and increase the energy flow in your body, thus enhancing your ability to enjoy every aspect of your life.
