SERVICES
Welcome to Holistic Therapies By Emily Ashman
Working in the Northamptonshire and Milton Keynes area, I offer a mobile practice, allowing clients to have treatments within the comfort of their own homes.
What are Holistic Therapies?
Holistic therapies are relaxing and beneficial therapies that aim to treat an individual as a whole, rather than focusing on a specific ailment. These treatments aim to support the emotional, physical and psychological aspects of an individual. There are many different types of holistic therapies but the two that I offer are Aromatherapy and Reflexology.
Both Aromatherapy and Reflexology are completely natural and complementary therapies, which means that they can be effectively and safely used alongside medical treatment. These therapies can also be used by the elderly, those with chronic conditions and even during pregnancy, however this should only be undertaken by a fully qualified therapist, and current conditions would need to be discussed before the treatment.
What to expect from the treatments
As Aromatherapy and Reflexology are both holistic a full consultation is required before the start of a treatment. This will allow the clients needs to be assessed and discussed, so that the treatment can be tailored to the individual. During the initial consultation full medical history, lifestyle and current health will be discussed.
During mobile treatments I will provide all necessary quality equipment, such as towels and portable couch/chair. Treatments can last from approximately 30 minutes to 2 hours, but please note that the initial treatment may be slightly longer than a standard treatment.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy is the therapeutic use of essential oils, which are natural aromatic substances produced by plants. There are many essential oils, which have a number of healing properties for both the body and mind. The effects of essential oils can occur by absorption into the body through the skin, whilst having a pleasant effect upon the senses.
Research has shown that essential oils can have a number of therapeutic properties such as:
- Anti-infectious
- Anti-inflammatory
- Pain relieving
- Relaxing and calming
- Stimulating and uplifting
Each oil has its own distinct fragrance and therapeutic properties and will be selected according to the client’s needs and preferences.
Due to the extensive therapeutic properties of essential oils, aromatherapy can be beneficial for a number of conditions, including:
- Stress and anxiety
- Insomnia
- Headaches
- Muscular aches and pains
- Constipation
Aromatherapy is particularly effective in reducing stress and anxiety. Stress is known to effect a large percentage of the population and can cause a variety of symptoms and illnesses. Therefore aromatherapy has the potential to prevent illness whilst promoting health and well-being.
Aromatherapy is a holistic and natural therapy, which aims to treat an individual as a whole and is safe to be used by those with chronic conditions, the elderly and during pregnancy. However the use of essential oils must always be diluted correctly and should be administered by a fully qualified professional aromatherapist.
Aromatherapy is a holistic treatment, aiming to support the physical, mental and emotional aspects of an individual. Before an aromatherapy massage a full consultation will be given to assess the client’s needs, to enable the most beneficial oils are selected.
Please note that the initial treatment will take longer as a full medical history, current health, well-being and lifestyle will be discussed. The aromatherapy massage is aimed at providing relaxation whilst easing any tension within the body, using Swedish massage techniques. A typical one-hour massage will include neck, shoulders arms and back.
Aromatherapy remedies for home use can also be made upon request, which can help to provide a feeling of well being in between treatments. These include creams, lotions, aromatic baths, and shower gels. All are tailor made to your needs.
Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural, non-invasive complementary therapy. It is understood that there are a number of pressure points or ‘reflexes’ on the feet and hands that correspond to the body and organs. During a treatment gentle pressure is therapeutically applied to the reflex points, providing a deep sense of relaxation whilst promoting balance within the body. This allows the whole body to be treated by just using specific techniques on the hands or feet.
Reflexology is also a holistic therapy, which aims to support the emotional, physical and psychological well-being of the client. It is a convenient, effective and safe treatment that can be used by all, including the elderly, those with chronic conditions and during pregnancy.
Reflexology is a thoroughly relaxing treatment, which can also be beneficial for a number of conditions, including:
- Stress and anxiety
- Headaches and migraines
- Muscular aches and pains
- Insomnia
- Constipation
- Improving circulation
Currently a large percentage of the population are affected by stress, causing a variety of symptoms. Recent research has shown that stress can also have a negative effect upon the immune system and general health, leaving an individual more susceptible to illness. Regular reflexology treatments are therefore ideal for helping to reduce stress, improve general well being and potentially prevent illness.
Before a reflexology treatment a full consultation will be given to assess the needs of the client; full medical history, lifestyle and general well being will be discussed. This allows the treatment to be tailored around the client’s needs and preferences. Generally the treatment will be carried out on a reclining reflexology chair and will last approximately an hour. Please note that the initial treatment may be longer due to a more in depth consultation.
During the treatment the client is encouraged to relax and take the time for themselves, whilst promoting the body to become balanced.
As a fully qualified aromatherapist as well, essential oils can also be incorporated into the treatment upon request, which can further enhance the therapeutic actions of the reflexology treatments.
