About Us
We aim to match our treatments to your requirements.
In 1994 Sandy was seriously injured suffering a fracture to the lumbar spine and other associated injuries; massage was a huge part of her rehabilitation whilst at Hedley Court Military hospital. This inspired Sandy to study the anatomy and physiology of the human body and become qualified in the massage techniques to empathetically relieve the symptoms of muscular pain.
Sandy Townsend trained in Swedish Massage at Blackpool and the Fylde college in 2007 and is committed to providing treatments of the highest quality. Sandy is based on the Fylde Coast, Lancashire, UK and will conduct your treatment in the comfort of your own home.
Massage for athletes
Several of my clients are sports men and women who compete in endurance events. Swedish massage is a vital part of their training regime as it contributes to their ultimate goal. Having a massage before these events can aid their performance as they will have the psychological edge on their fellow competitors who have not prepared quite so completely. Promoting blood vessel dilation and flushing toxins from their bodies Swedish massage contributes to the prevention of muscle fatigue and muscular atrophy.
Massage for desk-based workers
Desk-based workers tend to spend their day in a seated position staring at a computer, phone tucked up between the shoulder and jaw bone, mouse in one hand, typing on the keyboard with the other. This bad practice, if prolonged may result in symptoms such as:
- Headaches ans migraine
- Upperbody muscle tension and strain
- Stress
- Repetitive strain injuries
You would not have to rummage around their desk-space for too long before you found the obligatory stash of paracetamol and ibuprofen. (To the best of my knowledge manual trades men and women do not take these over-the-counter remedies regularly!) These symptoms can leave you feeling tired come the end of the day with little energy left to do anything more strenuous than sitting on the couch with a glass of wine. Regular massage therapy could be the answer and you should be looking to take regular breaks if possible and definitely leaving your desk and stretching your legs during your lunch break!
Massage for manual labour-intensive trades
I regularly treat people whose daily work places significant strain on their backs, arms and legs. These clients tend to be self-employed and time off work due to injury or muscle strain could penalise them financially or damage their reputation. My clients report that regular massage treatments improve their mobility and flexibility limiting the strain their demanding jobs have on their bodies.
Massage for general health and wellbeing
During a Swedish massage the muscles are relaxed; this improves the function of the lymphatic system. The lymphatic system moves nutrient-filled fluids and waste around the body. These fluids are only moved through voluntary movements from the muscles.
Swedish massage also helps to facilitate greater health by increasing blood flow, aiding digestion, and giving the client a heightened awareness of their own bodies.
Having a Swedish massage is of enormous benefit to anyone suffering from muscular strain problems and, as the muscles relax, the lymphatic system will flush out all the metabolic waste from the muscles, which also promotes healing.
The Swedish massage may also be used as therapeutic remedy for painful debilitating joint disorders. During the massage the elasticity in the tissues and joint flexibility increase, which reduces the level of pain. It can also help alleviate soreness after intense workouts.
Since circulating fluids is a major focus of this type of bodywork, it is recommended to drink plenty of water before and after a massage session.
Affiliation with other local practitioners
Post consultation, should a massage with myself be contraindicated I am pleased to be affiliated with other local practitioners eg. sports injury therapists, to whom you could be referred should you wish where applicable.
