Welcome to Effort Personal Training
My name is Tom and three years ago I was 18 stone, and struggling with alcohol addiction, I set up Effort in 2008 after using fitness to help me turn my life around.
Whatever YOUR goal, weight loss, recovery from injury, a lifestyle change or the elusive six pack, I can provide the expertise, motivation and personal experience to help you achieve your desired result.
My own personal goals have been to regain my self belief, confidence, health and to continue abstaining from alcohol, which to date I have acheived. I have run numerous 10k, half marathons and completed my 5th Marathon at the beginning of May and I am entered to take part in Marathon de Sables 2010.
Based in Newtonhill, Wakefield. Effort Personal Training offers a Private Personal Training Studio equipped with high quality equipment, key to delivering functional fitness training.
We also sponsor Damien Blanch of Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, and are involved with Fitness Training for Junior Football and Rugby teams in the Wakefield area.
The Training Studio
Effort has the added benefit of a Private Personal training studio, well equipped for functional training and great for enabling you to fully focus on your training with no distractions. A bit of luxury you wont get at the local gym.

Consultation
The consultation session is an extremely important part of personal training.
It is during your consultation that together we will clearly define, and agree on achievable goals. If this is not completed with care the end product may lead to an unhappy client and could result in injury.
The consultation looks at current lifestyle, diet, sleep patterns and current activity levels.
We then look at what you want to achieve. This is different for every client. Not everyone wants to run a marathon or bench 180kg!
Once completed time scales and goals can be set and your Personal Trainer can the prepare a program in preparation for the next phase - The first Personal Training Session.
Personal Training Session
There is a stereotypical idea of what a personal training session is all about.
My own favourite is a vision of a rather large scary man shouting at me to get down to do more press ups and squat thrusts and then insulting me when I collapse in a heap on the floor!
Thankfully this is not the case.
Our sessions are designed to be fun and functional.
However they won't be easy, 100% Effort is required by both client and trainer.

Each personal training session is an hour long and for maximum results we recommend 2 sessions a week.
Group Fitness
Perhaps you run a youth team, a Sunday league adult football or rugby team or are a group who could benefit from fitness training.
Tom is already involved with weekly fitness coaching for local youth football and rugby teams , as well as holding adhoc sessions for the cub scouts. He is also a SAQ® Trainer.
Corporate Fitness
Imagine if you had a fully fit and healthy workforce. No time off for bad backs or general aches and pains, just a fully energized staff ready for action.
OK, so its not going to be like that in reality but by promoting fitness in the workplace then you could go some way to making a more motivated team.
And you don't have to drag your employees down to the gym.
Education days, fitness days, subsidised PT vouchers, regular fitness checks can all help promote a healthier workforce, lower sickness levels and in turn a healthier bank balance.
Tom has sucessfully worked with a large multi national company during their fitness weeks, running office energizers, fitness sessions and fitness trials.
Ladies Running Group
New for Summer! After speaking to clients and friends it became clear that many Ladies felt uncomfortable running alone, or felt they were not even capable of running.
So Effort Ladies was created to provide a safe, social enviroment for all abilities from plodders to runners. Ladies can run at their own pace, as many laps as can be managed. At the end of the session, Tom leads the cool down exercises.
Effort Ladies meet at 9.00am each Sunday, Pugneys Country Park, Wakefield. Although there is no charge we ask for a £1 contribution for group funds. Places are limited so please contact Tom to join.
Support for Alcohol Addiction Recovery
Effort Personal Training would not exist if it wasn't for alcohol.
I am a recovering alcoholic.
This is something I have no problem admitting to now. I have an illness and now I am in a recovery period. Hopefully this recovery will last for 60 years - who knows.
What I do know is a health and fitness program was the one thing that finally helped me beat alcoholism. This is something I discovered on my own, no one ever suggested that perhaps sport could help me, not my doctor or the drop in centre. It is the best kept secret in the world.
They say that getting off the drink is easy, it's staying off thats difficult. This is very true, I have tried and failed many times before to beat my illness but this time was different and I filled the time that I used to spend drinking with exercise, and slowly I began to achieve, regain self belief, self confidence and respect. Easy this was not, this has been the most difficult thing I ever faced.
This is not a cure for alcohol addiction but its not far off !!!! I would like to share my knowledge, and experience to help others recovering from a dependency on alcohol. Contact me in complete confidence to discuss how personal training could help.
