In today’s busy world we spend too much of our time in our heads, not relaxing and resting enough to allow our bodies and minds to recover. Stress and tension build up and adversely affect and weaken our immune system making us vulnerable to aches, pains and illness.
The aim of Reflexology and Acupuncture is to treat the whole person- body, mind and spirit to induce a state of relaxation, balance and harmony and encourage the body’s natural healing process. Reflexology and Acupuncture are complementary therapies and work alongside conventional medicine and treatment.
Elaine has a special interest in chronic pain and women’s health including menstrual problems, sub fertility and IVF support.
REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is based on the belief that all organs and systems of the body are reflected in the reflexes of the feet and by stimulating these reflexes the practitioner may alleviate symptoms such as stress and tension.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A REFLEXOLOGY TREATMENT?
As part of your first treatment, Elaine will go through a detailed consultation to find out about your medical history and lifestyle and establish what you want to achieve from your reflexology session. All information will be kept strictly confidential. Elaine will then be able to plan a treatment to suit your individual needs. You should allow an extra 20 to 30 minutes on top of your treatment time for this consultation.
Treatment lasts approximately one hour. You remain fully clothed and simply remove your shoes and socks. The treatment will involve massage and application of pressure to the reflex points of the feet to ease tension, improve circulation and energy flow and to encourage the body to restore its own natural balance, creating a sense of well being.
Elaine will bring a comfortable reclining chair to your home for your use during the reflexology session. All you have to do is relax and enjoy the treatment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Elaine has obtained a First Class Honours Degree in Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine and as well as running an acupuncture clinic in Selby, she is a tutor at the Northern College of Acupuncture in York.
- Elaine has a NOCN level 1 and 3 certificate in Reflexology, gaining the ACE certificate for student of the year 2009 for outstanding achievement and professional conduct.
- Elaine has completed the Advanced Reflexology course with Teresa Rich and Cancer Care and Reflexology with Edwina Hodkinson.
- Elaine is a member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists and the British Acupuncture Council and is fully insured.
- Elaine is experienced in treating and supporting patients with both long term and short term illnesses, particularly post stroke pain, hormone imbalances, stress related conditions, asthma and many other disorders. Many clients have treatments purely for relaxation and to help boost their immune system to safeguard from illness.

ACUPUNCTURE
Acupuncture is a holistic therapy which has been practised for over 2000 years and is based on the belief that when Qi or energy becomes depleted or blocked, this can affect health and well being. WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN ACUPUNCTURE TREATMENT?
During your initial consultation Elaine will ask you questions regarding your previous medical history and present health and lifestyle. Your pulse will be taken on both wrists and Elaine will ask to have a quick look at your tongue. This helps to determine a Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis and ensure an appropriate treatment plan is selected to suit your individual needs.
Treatment may consist of a physical examination particularly if your symptoms are of a muscular or skeletal nature and you may be asked to remove items of clothing for examination and treatment or simply to roll up your trousers. If appropriate a massage will be given to the area before insertion of needles. Elaine will always ensure your modesty is preserved at all times and you will be provided with towels to cover any area not being treated.
During a treatment very fine sterile needles are inserted into areas of the body known as acupoints and aim to affect the flow of energy or Qi and encourage the body’s own natural healing process. These are usually left in for up to 20 minutes and patients often feel very relaxed during a treatment.
Lifestyle and dietary advice may also be offered as part of the consultation to ensure patients receive maximum benefit from their treatment.
Cosmetic Facial Acupuncture
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a natural alternative to Botox and Fillers which aims to improve overall appearance of the skin by stimulating blood and energy flow to the area. This treatment also aims to improve general health and wellbeing.
