Elemental Chi Kung Is a progressive approach to chi kung that incorporates classic styles and philosophies with modern bodymind and energy concepts. The approach explores body and chi awareness as a way to deepen into our internal chi flow through movement, stillness, meditation, and breath. A creative space is sought to allow our essential nature to express itself and bring about transformation to an innermost reality.

Chi Kung is an ancient Chinese form of movement exercise that promotes the flow of Chi (vital energy) through the body.
It translates as ‘energy work’ in English and comprises exercises for stretching and mobilising the body and joints, breathing techniques, slow movement exercises, static postures, special walking methods and meditation.

Chi is the body’s vital energy which Chi Kung builds up to establish a physiological and psychological harmony. Most of the theory behind Chi Kung is common to Chinese Medicine with which it has a traditional link. Chi Kung is also associated with Taoist and Buddhist philosophies and practices, particularly Taoist.

Chi Kung generally does not have complex ‘forms’. Chi Kung movements are simple. Each action aims to move Chi in a specific way. The movements often take their inspiration from the movement of animals and nature and can look quite beautiful. Sometimes the movements follow energy channels in the body and sometimes they orient around internal organs or parts of the body. The aim in all the movements is to increase the flow of Chi through the mind and body.

Metal - Drawing in the Seasons with Autumn

Metal represents the condensing energy of nature and the season of Autumn. Its manifestation in the body is in the lungs and large intestine. Their overall function is the exchange of Chi, drawing in Chi from the air through the breath and eliminating what is unnecessary to the body's requirements. Strong metal leads to clarity of mind and a positive, open and bright energy.

Water Element Workshop - 17 & 18 Jan 2015
Water - Embracing the stillness and depth of Winter

Water respresents the state of rest in nature like the Winter season when everything reaches its maximal decline. The Water Element contains the potential for change and its association with the kidneys and bladder organs will be explored. When Water is healthy it can affect the whole of the Yin and Yang forces in the body and bring about deep vitality and a sense of knowing who you are and how you want to manifest your life.

Wood Element Workshop - 18 & 19 April 2015

The element for Spring is Wood. Wood represents the power of growth in nature. The new beginning after the winter thaw. This action also causes the blood and chi to flow freer as a river flows.

Working with Fire you can attune the conscious to unconscious, stimulating insight and creativity.

Earth element will be present in each of the other element workshops, rather that it being a standalone workshop, as a way of creating balance and stability. Dan Brierley Workshops 2015

2nd May 2015

This one day workshop will be split into two sessions:

The morning session - 10am to 12.30pm - will focus on some Nei Kung breathing techniques, standing forms and circle walking. A really great way to start the day. It strengthens the body and mind whilst keeping them soft and supple. It will enhance and inform your Chi Kung practice. The essence of Nei Kung practice is to help cultivate and develop Jing, Chi and Shen through strengthening the body, moving Chi through your whole system and cultivating your spirit through meditation and breathing.

The afternoon session - 2pm to 4.30pm - will focus on the six healing sounds of Elemental Chi Kung. These sounds or tones when practiced correctly send a healing vibration to strenghten and balance the organs of your body - Liver, Heart, Spleen, Lungs, Kidneys and Triple Heater/Pericardium.

The tones are very ancient and probably originated from shamanic tonal singing that is still practiced by some nomadic communities. it was developed and refined by Daoist sages and is a simple but powerful healing practice to add to your Chi Kung knowledge and development.

Pricing: £35 per workshop or £60 if bookng both together.

Venue: CECK, Unit 1 & 2, Leeds Place, Tollington Park London N4 3RF

Time: 10am to 12.30pm (morning session) 2pm to 4pm (afternoon session)

Theme:
Sue Reed and Thalbert Allen have been researchig their Chi Kung this year in preparation for the retreat in Italy. The have devised and approach to balancing and revitalising rhe central nervous system using the Dragon form. Through balancing the central nervous system we will support the function of all body systems, stilling and balancing body and mind.

The Water Element, which is the child of the Metal Element, represented by the Kidneys and Bladder in the body, plays and important role in calming the central nervous system. Kidney deficiency can lead to restlessness and a nervous, fearful disposition, also causing problems with sleep, hampering the body's abilty to naturally revitalise.

The retreat will take us into the creative phase of the elements. Creative activity is initiated by the Water Element and is implemented by the Wood Element using it's transformative powers.

The Dragon form encompasses all five elements, and our intention will be to place particular emphasis on the Water and Wood Elements in this form.

Join Sue Reed and Thalbert F Allen using the teachings of the College of Element Chi Kung as we harness the power of the elements to gain freedom of movement while coming into balance with the universe.
