Sports Massage therapies are for everyone!
You do not have to be an athlete to benefit from a GLSport sports massage. My clients include Office Workers; Builders; Fire Fighters; Radiographers; Teachers; Estate Agents; Hairdressers; Door Supervisors; and Civil Servants to name but a few.
The Benefits of Sports Massage
The techniques I use have been developed by practitioners to ensure that each massage is effective and provides efficient results. Sports massage can aid with:
- improved circulation and lymphatic flow.
- the removal of metabolic waste.
- sedating or stimulating nerve endings.
- increased or decreased muscle tone.
- increasing or decreasing muscle length.
- the remodelling of scar tissue.
- mental preparation for sporting participation.
The benefits above can help with many day to day problems like repetitive strain injury; sprains; tension; and fatigue to name but a few.
Remedial Massage
The first of our sports massage therapies is Remedial Massage. It is used to benefit, normalize and improve musculoskeletal problems (pain that affects the muscles, ligaments and tendons, and bones.). It focuses on resolving specific physical issues, promoting the body’s own healing mechanisms and to prevent further injury from recurring.
Remedial massage therapy covers many techniques. The usual effleurage, petrissage and tapotement movements of Swedish massage are further enhanced by the use of deep frictions; soft-tissue release; neuromuscular techniques; and muscle energy techniques.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Sports Massage Therapies thoroughly relaxes the muscles and as a result isolates areas of tension. I recommend this treatment for anyone who suffers with stiffness and tightness in their neck, backs and shoulders.
Treatment sessions can last for 45 minutes for a specific area, or 90 minutes for a full body massage. This type of therapy realigns the deep layers of muscle and connective tissue relieving chronic muscle tension, which if left can cause injury and further pain.
Ultrasound Therapy
Ultrasound is used in various formats to treat all stages of injury. But is particularly useful to speed up the inflammation process and used in the early stages of injury where manual massage is contra-indicated.
Treatment is aimed to reduce swelling, pain, loss of function prior to and during the rehabilitation process.
