What is Homeopathy?
Homeopathy was first discovered in the late 18th century. It is a safe and non-toxic form of medicine. The aim is to assist the body’s natural tendency to heal itself in cases where this intrinsic self healing capacity has become stuck.
This is achieved by stimulating or activating the body’s internal resources by administering nanopharmacological medicines, also called remedies, which are made from animal, plant and mineral substances.
Homeopathy is a holistic form of medicine and as a result recognises that all symptoms of “dis-ease” are expressions of disharmony (an imbalance of some kind, whether immunological, endocrinological, psychological etc.) within the person as a whole. It therefore stands to reason that it is the person who needs treatment and not the disease.
Homeopathic remedies are prescribed after careful consideration of all aspects of a person, from their physical symptoms to their mental and emotional state. Homeopathy can thus be viewed as tailor made or designer made medicine for the individual.
What conditions can it treat?
Homeopathy has been found to be very effective in the treatment of many chronic conditions commonly seen in general practice, e.g. eczema, sinusitis, digestive conditions, arthritis, treatment for shock or trauma in general, hormonal disorders, allergies and many childhood ailments.
Menopause
Homeopathy can be be used to help with both physical and emotional symptoms of the menopause. It has been shown to be effective for hot flushes and sweats, anxiety, tiredness, mood swings, headaches and sleeping difficulties. In a study carried out at an NHS Well Woman clinic in Sheffield, 81 per cent of 102 patients reported improvement of these menopause symptoms after homeopathic treatment.
Babies and Children
Due to homeopathy being non-toxic, safe and gentle, it is ideal for treating babies and children, who usually respond quickly to homeopathic treatment. Conditions treated include: cradle cap, eczema, asthma, colic, teething, coughs, colds, fevers and recurrent colds.
Eczema
Eczema is the result of many internal and external factors acting singly or in combination with each other, due to a lowered vitality and immunity. Treatment with antibiotics and steroid creams merely suppress the eczema. In some cases suppressed eczema may lead to asthma or other conditions. When the whole person is treated, the power of the immune system is enhanced, thereby causing the disease to disappear. Eczema can be cured with homeopathy.
Asthma
Asthma stems from the same lowered vitality and immunity as eczema but presents with problems associated with the respiratory system, namely shortness of breath, coughing and tightness in the chest. These symptoms are the result of a constriction in the smaller airways within the lung. In the UK the prevalence of asthma among children in the 5-12 age group is around 10 per cent. Homeopathic treatment works for asthma sufferers in the same way as described for eczema sufferers.

First appointment
The initial consultation will last between one to one and a half hours. During this time a detailed account is taken of your medical and family history, medication and your current state of health.
The core issues that need to be addressed will be identified. Your current symptoms will be considered, how, why and when they started, what makes them better or worse and how they affect your daily life.
Much more information is taken into account so as to obtain a complete picture of who you are in order to improve your well-being.
Subsequent appointments
The number of follow on appointments needed, will depend on the nature of your condition and the length of time that you have been suffering from it.
Longstanding chronic conditions that have disrupted your life for some time will require several appointments.
