WHAT CAN MASSAGE DO FOR YOU?
Painful or Tight Muscles Massage can relieve many types of muscle tightness, from a short-term muscle cramp to a habitually clenched jaw or tight shoulders. Some massage techniques release tension directly by stretching, kneading, and compressing your muscles. Other techniques work indirectly by affecting your nervous system to allow your muscles to relax.
Delayed Muscle Soreness After vigorous exercise, a buildup of waste products in your muscles can leave you feeling tired and sore. Massage increases circulation, thus removing waste products and bringing healing nutrients.
Pain or Tingling in Arms or Legs Muscles can become so contracted that they press on nerves to the arms, hands and legs, causing pain or tingling. If this happens, a massage to release the contracted muscles can bring relief.
Injuries Massage can help heal injuries that develop over time, such as tendonitis, as well as ligament sprains or muscle strains caused by an accident. Massage increases circulation to the affected area, which removes waste products and brings nutrients to injured cells. Certain massage techniques can limit scar formation in new injuries and can reduce or make more pliable the scar tissue remaining around old injuries.
Prevention of New Injuries By relieving chronic tension, massage can help prevent injuries that might result from putting stress on unbalanced muscle groups or from favouring or forcing a painful, restricted area.
Joint Pain or Restriction Besides releasing tight muscles that restrict joint movement, massage directly affects your joints by improving circulation around them and stimulating the production of natural lubrication within them, relieving pain from conditions such as osteoarthritis.
Posture As massage releases restrictions in muscles, joints, and surrounding fascia, your body is freed to return to a more natural and healthy posture. Massage can also relieve the contracted muscles and pain caused by abnormal spinal curvatures such as scoliosis.

Bowen therapists acknowledge that the body has the ability to adjust, adapt and heal itself and treatment aims to assist the body with this.
Reflexology
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is a complementary therapy that works on the feet or hands enabling the body to heal itself. The theory is that following illness, stress, injury or disease, the body enters a state of "imbalance", and that vital energy pathways are blocked, preventing the body from functioning effectively. Reflexology may be used to restore and maintain the body's natural equilibrium and encourage healing.
A Reflexologist uses hands only to apply pressure to the feet. For each person the application and the effect of the therapy is unique. Sensitive, trained hands may detect imbalances in the feet, and by working on these points the Reflexologist can release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions are eased, and circulation and elimination might be improved.
Whilst the art of reflexology dates back to Ancient Egypt, India and China, it wasn't until 1913 that Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as 'zone therapy'. He noted that reflex areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas and organs of the body within the same zone.
In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is now known as reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the foot is mirrored in corresponding part of the body.
Recent research from Japan has started to shed light on the ideas behind reflexology
Reflexology is complementary therapy, which works on the feet to help heal the whole person not just the prevailing symptoms. It is not however an alternative to seeking medical advice or attention.
Reflexologists do not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Therapists facilitate the healing process of the individual. Each session of reflexology works on an individual basis.
Who can benefit from reflexology?
Reflexology is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions. After having completed a course of reflexology treatments for a specific condition, many people find it beneficial to continue to have occasional treatments to maintain health and well-being.
Many people use reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting stress, some doctors, consultants and other health care professionals recognise reflexology as a well established, respected and effective therapy.
With ever increasing levels of stress, it is important for people take more responsibility for their own health care needs.
Reflexology may help people to cope on a physical mental and emotional level thereby encouraging healing and maintenance in all areas of life.
I began my journey into Healing Therapies having endured many years of severe pain for which I could find no relief.
At the age of 40 I began searching and training; first in Aromatherapy, then Reiki. I love to learn so it wasn't long before I trained in Indian Head Massage. Eventually I met someone who introduced me to the Bowen Technique and for the first time I found relief from my pain and real means of helping others. Of course I began my training immediately. I have been priviledged to offer help to several hundred people since that time.
I moved to Ireland in 2001 and found myself surrounded by people who talked about angels (a new concept for me) and eventually was introduced to them personally through my Reiki and eventually discovered and trained in Angelic Reiki, finding that the Angels often speak to people through me during our sessions.
I opened Healing Arts Holistic Healing Centre and the Body, Mind, Spirit shop in 2005 so that I could make Holistic Therapies more available. Several therapists rent rooms at Healing Arts to offer their own specialist therapies which are listed.
We are all well qualified/experienced in our various techniques and the needs of our clients are our first priority. You will expect to take part in a consultation before a treatment session begins so we may understand your needs fully and the treatment plan will be expained and discussed with you in detail.
