About Ayurveda

Ayurveda is an intricate system of healthcare that originated in India over 3,000 years ago. It is believed to be oldest healing science in existence, forming the foundation of all others. The word Ayurveda itself is made up of two Sanskrit words: Ayur which means ‘life’ and Veda which means ‘the knowledge of’.

Ayurveda was conceived and developed by vedic yogis and natural scientists through centuries of observations, experiments, discussions, and meditations. For several thousand years their teachings were passed on orally from teacher to student; and around the fifth to sixth century BC, elaborately detailed texts were written in Sanskrit.

In India today, Ayurvedic practitioners now receive state-recognised training in parallel to their physician counterparts. What’s more, there is now a rapidly developing global drive to prove that methods such as Ayurveda can work alongside general medical practice and offer the user a natural, safe and beneficial alternative.

Modern scientific research is fast proving that Ayurveda, the science of life, and Yoga, the science of self realisation, can have a far-reaching impact on both the physiological and psychological causes of many health complaints. Published studies have documented reductions in cardiovascular disease risk factors, including blood pressure, cholesterol, and reaction to stress in individuals who practice Ayurvedic treatment and lifestyle methods.

Laboratory and clinical studies on Ayurvedic herbal preparations and other therapies have shown them to have a range of potentially beneficial effects for preventing and treating infectious disease, treating diabetes, relieving structural problems, promoting health, reducing the signs of aging – and much more. Recently, it was revealed that the famous Ayurvedic medicine Triphala has been found to have anti-cancer properties.

The past 50 years has seen a rapid growth in Ayurveda, after being put on the back-burner for well over a century. Western advocates such as Deepak Chopra, David Frawley and Atreya Smith have helped to catapult Ayurveda into the Western spotlight but the journey hasn’t ended there. In India, not only does Ayurveda run parallel to western medicine, but the solutions it offers is now provided by medical GPs, hospitals and pharmacies, who are increasingly turning to Ayurvedic methods to deliver effective patient treatment protocols. The coming years will be a defining point for Ayurveda to have the same impact on a global scale.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is the use of various bodywork techniques that aims to restore movement and function to as near normal as possible when someone is affected by injury, illness or by developmental or other disability. In particular, physiotherapists concentrate on problems that affect muscles, bones, the heart, circulation and lungs. It involves a range of treatments including manipulation, massage, exercise, electrotherapy and hydrotherapy. Our physiotherapy services can be provided under most medical insurers – please call us to check if we are registered with your insurance firm.

Reflexology

Reflexology is a therapy that deals with the principle that there are reflexes in the feet & hands that corresponds to all of the organs, glands and parts of the body. By stimulating these reflexes, imbalances in your body can be identified and corrected. Reflexology can reduce stress, induce deep relaxation, increase energy levels, improve circulation, remove impurities and toxins, build a stronger immune system, and leave the body in a better balanced state.

Payment for Reflexology must be made in cash or cheque only.

Indian Head Massage

Indian Head Massage is a popular treatment based on Ayurvedic techniques involving work on the upper back, shoulders, neck, scalp and face. A variety of massage movements based on the patient’s condition are used. It can ease tension headaches, anxiety and stress, neck/shoulder stiffness, tinnitis and other ear problems, sinusitis, mental tiredness, insomnia, hair loss/thinning and eye strain.

Payment for Indian Head Massage must be made in cash or cheque only.

Reiki Healing

The word Reiki means ‘Universal Energy’ and is a way of activating, directing and applying natural energy for the promotion of health and wholeness. The client can either lie down or sit upright and there is no need to remove any clothing. The therapist places their hands gently, in a series of positions, on or over the body. Reiki may be felt as a flow of energy, mild tingling, warmth, coolness, other sensations - or nothing at all. It is deeply relaxing, eases stress, and has a calming effect. It can accelerate healing, balance emotions, and free us from negative mental attitudes.

Payment for Reiki must be made in cash or cheque only.

Holistic Massage

Both holistic and Swedish massage involve a variety of techniques specifically designed to relax body, mind and soul. These techniques include long strokes, kneading, friction, tapping, percussion, vibration, effleurage, and shaking motions. Massage shortens recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of lactic acid, uric acid, and other metabolic wastes. The various forms of tissue manipulation involved in both holistic and Swedish massage enables the person to improve their health and re-establish their body’s natural equilibrium.

Payment for Holistic massage must be made in cash or cheque only.

Polarity

According to polarity therapy our physical, psychological and spiritual well-being depends on the free and uninterrupted flow of ‘life energy’ around the body. This energy, which is comparable to ‘chi’ in Traditional Chinese Medicine and ‘prana’ in Ayurveda, moves in currents between a positive and negative pole. Disruption in this flow leads to pain and illness and the practitioner will use bodywork, diet, exercise and self-awareness counselling to restore or re-balance the flow so that the body can heal itself naturally.

Payment for Polarity must be made in cash or cheque only.

Thai Yoga Massage

Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient, unique and powerful style of massage, which dates back to the third century BC. Thai Massage works on an energy line system (the Ten Sen) through which the body’s natural life force flows. Blockages in this life force cause aches, pains and disease. The therapist uses hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to important points along these lines, in combination with gentle stretching and applied hatha yoga. This releases blocked energy and frees the body's own natural healing potential, thus restoring balance, health and harmony.

Payment for Thai Yoga Massage must be made in cash or cheque only.

Ayurvedic Facelift

Ayurvedic facelift promotes free flow of blood and other nutrients to the facial skin.

It involves massage techniques which smoothes away the impediments that block free flow. It targets the connective tissues beneath facial skin and releases tension in them. It also relaxes the facial muscles. The combined action makes the face fresh, supple and lively. This wonderful treatment benefits not just the face but also the mind and body by bringing about mental tranquility and metabolic vigour.

Payment for Ayurvedic Facelift must be made in cash or cheque only.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is one of the many therapies of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its prime focus is on regulating the meridians of the body and re-establishing energy balance. The insertion of fine needles along these meridians stimulates the body’s own self-healing power, strengthening the immune system and restoring natural vitality. Acupuncture can help a wide variety of conditions, ranging from arthritis to sinusitis and asthma to sciatica.

Payment for Acupuncture must be made in cash or cheque only.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

Fast becoming a popular and effective form of acupuncture, this treatment involves the insertion of hair-thin needles into specific areas on the face and body to improve energy flow. The procedure is followed by a facial cream massage and finally the application of a Jade roller to close the skin pores. This indulgent treatment increases local circulation to the face and stimulates collagen production, thus nourishing and moisturising skin from the inside, minimising fine lines, lifting sagging skin, brightening eyes, increasing blood and lymph circulation. It ultimately gives the skin a healthy complexion with natural, radiant and younger looking skin.

Payment for Cosmetic Acupuncture must be made in cash or cheque only.

Last resort – Healing Hands After good few weeks on massage, the girls got me not walking but running again. This was 4 years ago. I am still walking and smiling.
