Anxiety & Depression
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is a cognitive-behavioral approach for treatment of stress, depression, hostility, anxiety etc. developed by Dr. Albert Ellis in 1955.
According to this therapy, emotional and behavioural ailments are the result of irrational thoughts, assumptions and beliefs. This therapy identifies those problematic and erroneous ideas and replace them with more rational, reality-based thoughts and perspectives.
REBT- Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy since its inception, has flourished and spawned a variety of other cognitive-behavior therapies. Its effectiveness, short-term nature, and low cost are major reasons for its wide acceptance and popularity.
Information on Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT).
REBT's (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) overall approach works for individuals who desire a scientific, present-focused and effective treatment for coping with life's problems, rather than one which is mystical and largely passive.
People who take REBT are taught and encouraged to accept personal responsibility for their own thoughts, feelings and behavior. They are empowered to change reactions and beliefs that are mal-adaptive, distorted, interfere with their goals and effect their enjoyment of life. Gradually with practice, the new ideas become part of the person and it integrates into their way of living.
Simple Principles of Rational Emotive Behaviour (REBT) Therapy.
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) is based on the following simple principles having profound implications:
You yourself are responsible for your emotions and actions.
These harmful emotions and dysfunctional behaviours are the after effects of your irrational thinking.
You can imbibe the realistic view in yourself and then practice them to make it your life's part.
You can experience more satisfactions in life by developing and following a reality-based perspective. By this you will tend to accept yourself more
How Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) Works?
Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) distinguishes between practical problems and emotional problems. Practical problems are actual events and situations that are problematic, whereas emotional problems are reactions to such events and situations that are inappropriate, inaccurate (over-reactions or under-reactions), and actually or potentially harmful. While one cannot always control things that happen in life, one is responsible for what one makes of it and how one handles it. REBT addresses the emotional suffering by helping you in the ways as mentioned in the simple principles above.
A number of techniques are used in this active approach, such as rational-emotive imagery (in which people imagine themselves thinking, feeling and behaving in ways they would like to think, feel and behave in real life), role-playing, homework assignments, desensitisation, and assertiveness exercises. The goal is freedom from emotional upheaval and a more authentic and joyful engagement in life.
Control your Weight
Reaching your ideal weight
For anyone who has been on a diet, losing weight is never easy. You set yourself a plan, you try out the latest diets, and all goes well at the beginning. The weights seem to be dropping off and you are still motivated by your efforts. But as soon as your home or work life changes, all the weight comes straight back again, this time faster than when you had lost it.
When you diet, you are basically depriving your body of food; your brain thinks that there must be a lack of food around. So when food becomes available again your body goes into storage-mode, taking in much more calories than before. Losing weight is not just about food or going on a diet, it is also about being aware of the situations and reasons when you over-eat or eat badly. As a short term method, dieting will work, but unless you understand and change your approach with food and eating, there is a good chance you will be repeating this diet-weight gain cycle again.
Everyone has their own eating habits and lifestyle; it is these habits and behaviours that determine our weight and general health. A sedentary lifestyle wiithout much exercise will undoubtedly lead to weight gain. Emotions too can affect the way we eat if you have ever noticed how we tend to eat when we are bored or feeling low.
To lose weight and permanently maintain your ideal weight, you need to permanently change your eating habits, behaviours and beliefs. Hypnosis will help you to achieve this and has been shown to be highly successful in overcoming habitual, unhealthy eating patterns. By making changes to your unconscious mind, the change in your eating habits will feel more natural, and you will find that your behaviours and eating patterns will adapt to your current lifestyle needs. A healthy eating way of life will lead to the weight naturally coming off and staying off.
