Jane Murray Sports & Remedial Massage
Massage is one of the most ancient forms of therapy.
It is an instinctive medicine - if you have a headache or tummy ache you automatically, instinctively rub it and feel better for it.
It is ideal for stress relief, relaxation and as a remedial treatment for physical and emotional problems. It is known for its relaxing qualities, its ability to reduce stress, tension and anxiety and produce a feeling of overall well being when the body releases chemicals known as endorphins - the feel good hormones. Swedish Massage is the most commonly known type of massage, it manipulates the soft body tissues by the use of a firm but gentle pressure to improve the circulation, ease muscle aches and tension, improves flexibility and creates relaxation. Circulation is improved and the immune system is strengthened. The main purpose of Swedish Massage is to increase the blood flow to all tissues, taking with it oxygen and nutrient rich cells, and flushing out any acid and metabolic waste, thereby shortening recovery times from muscular strains and keeping muscles flexible. Techniques used stretch ligaments, tendons and muscle fibres keeping them supple and pliable allowing improved range of motion, reduce scar tissue and stimulate and soothe the nervous system.
Some conditions such as muscular aches, sprains and strains are treatable and fixable, whilst other conditions such as arthritis are treatable and manageable, but not curable. Massage helps to alleviate the pain that such conditions create, such as helping to stimulate the production of synovial fluid around stiff, arthritic knees.
Sports and Remedial treatments are used to identify and alleviate mechanical problem areas, whereas a Relaxation Massage is aimed at just that - totally relaxing the patient to wear away the stresses and strains of daily life.
Whatever your needs my aim will be to tailor a treatment to suit you, including any ultrasound and infrared treatments together with after care advice in a friendly and comfortable atmosphere.
Our massage therapies include:
- Sports Massage for flushing out the tissues, injury prevention and recovery.
- Remedial Massage for chronic aches, pains, headaches, tendonitis, arthritis, repetitive strain injuries etc.
- Relaxation Massage for relaxation.
- Ultrasound and Therapeutic Infra Red - both treatments are pain free, comfortable and relaxing for the patient. If required they will be incorporated into your treatment session at no extra cost.
Ultrasound works by transmitting pain free sound waves through the tissues to reduce inflammation, helps to speed up the process of recovery and healing, encourages faster growth of the repair tissue and helps to break down scar tissue caused by injury and operations. Contraindications for ultrasound include pregnancy, tumours, vascular abnormalities, over sensitive tissues, pacemakers and any acute conditions.
It is a good modality to use in the case of tendonitis related problems and is generally used in conjunction with massage where an injury has occurred. Please advise if you have a pacemaker or any steel implants.
About Me
I qualified in Swedish Massage in 2007 and hold the VTCT Certificate in Swedish massage.
Through my interest in massage and it benefits to the body and well being I decided to then further my qualifications and obtained my Diploma in Remedial Massage at the distinguished Northern Institute of Massage. I chose to further my education here because of its excellent reputation throughout the industry as being an excellent provider of training and expertise. It was founded in 1924 and has trained many now well known and respected practitioners.
During the 2010/11 season I spent time at Salford Reds Rugby League Club working along side their physio. Here I performed Sports Massage to the players including general, pre and post event rubs and more specific injury related rubs when players had been injured.
In 2010 I joined up with Marple Fire Station for their fantastic annual 10k run, providing massage before and after the race for the competitors. And will be doing the same again this year on 10th September - why don't you join us at the start of the Middlewood Way for a great day out and help raise funds for The Firefighters Charity, a very worthwhile cause, at the same time. For more information or to register your place visit Facebook/Marple Fire Station 10k or enquire at Marple Fire Station
For many years I have harboured a fascination with the way the human body works and repairs itself after injury. Furthermore understanding how therapists such as myself can benefit the physical wellbeing of people has become my professional aim. I feel I am on a long term quest to increase my understanding and knowledge of Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy, and I found the opportunity I had at Salford Reds helped me enormously on this quest. I also undertake Continuing Professional Development courses on a regular basis to add to my skills. Those recently completed include Soft Tissue Release, Pre and Post Event Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Understanding the Back and Knee, and Deep Tissue and Hands Free Techniques. I also have a certificate for Emergency First Aid at Work and am trained in, and regularly use, ultrasound and infrared heat during my treatments.
I am a great believer in Pilates and how it can help strengthen the body's core strength, flexibility and agility, working hand in hand with massage to benefit the body as a whole.
