I am an experienced individual, couple and family counsellor.
SERVICES
Welcome to Jenny Start
I was a Relate counsellor for 14 years and have worked in a GP surgery, a Youth Counselling Service and run private practice for 10 years. For the past 10 years I have also been training counsellors as part of a team.
My work covers relationship issues (with or without a partner) such as separation, divorce, jealousy and coping with affairs. I have experience at working with grief and loss, dealing with stress, managing illness, anxiety, dealing with events from the past and exploring complex family issues. During my 22 years as a counsellor I have counselled a wide range of issues and difficulties and bring an extensive range of techniques to offer.
I believe talking can help. As a counsellor I see my role as helping you to engage your own inner resources. My philosophy is that we all have our own answers, but we can't always see them. Having the skills, expertise and theoretical understanding of a professional working with you can be very useful in sorting out a wide range of issues.

SUPERVISION
I trained as a Relate supervisor and have run a private supervision practice for 5 years.
My work as a trainer, having delivered both the Certificate In Counselling Skills, the Diploma In The Theory and Practice of Counselling and various CPD courses, means I am aware of current ethical and policy issues and have a good sense of the overall needs of counsellors from initial training to ongoning professional development.
My core counselling philosphy is person centred with a strong link to my earlier psychodynamicand systemic training. I have knowledge of CBT theory and techniques which supplement my approach. I integrate thse approaches into all my work.
This too applies to my approach to supervision. My training covered a wide range of supervision models, which allows flexibility in my working methods. I have been trained in both individual and group supervision. I have studied Hawkins and Shohet - 7 eyed model; Carroll's 7 tasks of supervision; Inskipp and Proctor, Burnham's systemic approach to supervision.
That aside, supervision, as counselling, relies on the trust, openess, safety and degree of congruence between the supervisor and supervisee. The strength of the work lies in the strength of the relationship.
TRAINING
I run counsellor training courses, CPD for a range of professionals, Assertiveness, Raising self-esteem, Peer Mentoring, Mediation Skills for Managing Staff, and will create tailor made courses for groups and organisations.
