About You
People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons, but in the end we are all individuals and there are many ways in which we experience our difficulties. Thus whatever your initial issue is, my approach is to put you the person first, within the context of the issues you speak of and your life. Therapy aims to give you the space to make sense of your experience, so that you can feel more “freed” up in order to live life more fully.
Our work together would begin with an initial meeting, to explore your needs, so do call me to arrange a no obligation first appointment.
Although I work with a wide range of issues, no list can cover all of our experiences as human beings. Thus you might say that there is a definite issue or problem such as relationship issues, work related problems, depression, life crises and anger issues, (to name just a few). However, you might equally come to see me for quite vague reasons, such as wider concerns around feelings about yourself and others, or because you are questioning the meaning of your life and where it is going.
About me
My experience
As a health practitioner I have many years experience working in the NHS as well as Higher Education and working within schools with the over 14's. I am involved in the training of psychotherapists and counsellors and in research and development within the field.
My extensive training, as a psychotherapist and counsellor, drew on different approaches to therapy in order to enable me to utilise the most valuable and relevant aspects of each, recognizing that individuals are unique and no single approach fits all.

About therapy
Working together
Our work together would begin with an initial meeting to explore your needs and expectations as well as how we work together. I very much hope that therapy will give you the space to think about yourself and your life in new and creative ways, gaining different perspectives on old and more recent difficulties.
Location
My psychotherapy and counselling practice is based 4 miles west of Wilton and 8 miles east of Shaftesbury and is within easy reach of the A30 (Wilton to Shaftesbury) and A303.
Counselling and Psychotherapy
One way of viewing the difference between counselling and psychotherapy is that counselling is sometimes considered a shorter term process and at times has a specific focus, whereas psychotherapy could be seen as enabling you to explore the underlying patterns of relating that you have developed and the implications of the ways in which these recur in your current life. However there can also be an overlap and natural progression between them.
