About Kevin Heyworth
My interest in holistic therapy goes back a long way, when it was more widely know as an alternative therapy. Fortunately nowadays, due to the acceptance of its value by the more orthodox medical practitioners, it has become better and more accurately know as complimentary therapy.
Complimentary therapy covers a broad spectrum of treatments available, and my specialist area is Aromatherapy and Massage based, and includes Aromatherapy, Raindrop & Vitaflex, Indian Head Massage and Hot Stone Therapy . The chances are that you will already know something about these therapies, so I won't go into detail here, but I am more than happy to discuss further with anyone who is interested.
If you are looking for a Therapist - then you have come to the right place. I would say that wouldn't I ! But seriously, for your own safety and peace of mind, if you wish to make use of the services of a therapist, please make sure that they are qualified, a member of a professional body - such as the FHT, and insured, and ask for proof. A good therapist will be willing to talk about treatments and discuss their suitability without you feeling obliged to go any further. I offer a "Get to know your therapist" taster, which is not a full consultation, but involves a face to face chat about your needs and expectations and, if you like, a hand, foot or neck and head massage with either carrier oil only or a half strength essential oil blend. This session costs just £18 and takes place in your own home. You are always welcome to have a friend or relative present should you so wish.
Aromatherapy:
Aromatherapy is the art of using essential oils holistically to promote a healthy body and mind. In particular it is used to alleviate stress and stress related conditions.
Oils may be used effectively via massage, inhalation (vaporisation), in a bath or mixed with a base cream and applied to the skin.
With the possible exception of lavender, essential oils should never be applied to the skin in their pure form. It is also not recommended for them to be put into the bath in their pure form as the may form globules which come into contact with the skin. Certain oils should not be used during pregnancy or by people with certain medical conditions.
While aromatherapy should only be practiced by a qualified practitioner, it is possible to learn basic facts enabling you to use some of the oils safely at home. Also, how to perform a basic aroma-massage to enable you to give your partner a relaxing massage, which is enjoyable and should earn you some brownie points in the process. Please ask about our training sessions and one to one training which can be tailor made to suit your needs.
Essential oils, carriers and creams:
There are numerous brands of essential oil on the market, ranging from very cheap to cost an arm and leg. Generally you get what you pay for, but the main thing is to ensure that you buy oils of a good quality. These should be "First Extraction" oils and will certainly not be found at the lower end of the market.
One of the leading brands of high quality oils is Tisserand, and another is Young Living. These are the only brands I use for treatments, and the only brands I sell to clients.
For adivce on how to use the oils safely, or to enquire about treatments or products available, please contact Kevin.
