Providing a secure, private and therapeutic space where troubles and difficulties can be explored, understood and worked through
After working in adult rehab psychiatry for a number of years a personal life event meant I had to make big changes within my life, one of those involved changing my professional direction.
I knew I wanted to remain working with people, preferably on a 1:1 basis, so enrolled initially on an introduction to counselling course; this ignited a passion which resulted in my graduation in Coventry Cathedral.
michelle-lay-counsellingA requirement of my professional training was that I undertook extensive personal therapy. I was lucky in that I was able to explore my past and present ways of relating to others. During this I had the opportunity to confront and explore areas of my past, which while at were times painful; I do believe this has given me a greater self-awareness and insight into how we all function with life experiences.
Since qualifying I have undertaken many short specialist courses to continue my professional development, these have included areas such as: Self Harm, Working with Survivors of Sexual Abuse, Child Protection Level 1, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Working with Addictions, Anger, Rage and Relationships.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) and work within the Ethical Framework it provides. I also have a Certificate in Therapeutic Play – The Institute for Arts in Therapy & Education from Islington London.
I am currently also working within two local schools with varied therapeutic needs, providing services for children aged from 4 to 18 years old.
