Hello my name is Estelle, I am engaged to my partner Nick and we have a beautiful
4 year old daughter called Scarlet. We live in Wychbold in the West Midlands
My wishes as a birth and postnatal doula are to support, listen, nurture and care. To encourage you to have the confidence in your choices and to empower you with the strength, and the belief, with positive feelings about your birth, and the start of your new life with your new baby.
Subsequently I can support mothers-to-be and aid them in identifying their own choices and a sense of empowerment!
From my own personal experience, I now know that the final part of my pregnancy was not just about the birth; the antenatal preparations, informed choices and even your surroundings can and will have a lasting impact on your birthing experience.
Becoming a birth and postnatal doula to other expectant mothers would be both a privilege and a rewarding opportunity for me to use my knowledge and additional training.
Training, Related Skills and Experience...
I have attended and completed the Birth and Postnatal Doula Training with Nurturing Birth in July 2013.
I was present at a Doula UK accredited study day, "Art of Doula Listening".
I hold a certificate in Paedriatric First Aid.
I also recently achieved the UNICEF Breastfeeding Friendly Intiative Course to enable me to support new mothers with all aspects of breastfeeding.
I have had four years experience living and working with young people and adults with learning difficulties and physical disabilities. Also I have spent ten years working within the NHS in the community as well as in hospitals.
I have recently had a disclosure and barring service (DBS) check (previously CRB check).
Giving birth and being a full time mum has given me essential knowledge.
Having supported mothers as a doula, it is a very rewarding role to support the mother to be (and their partner), and to encourage them to embrace their birthing journey.
I keep myself well informed of any new information/articles and read appropriate books.
Birth and Postnatal Doula
Birth Doula...
A birth doula has been trained to support an expectant mother with the appropriate antenatal preparations.
They offer physical and emotional support to you (and your partner) during labour and your birth.
A doula can create a calm, gentle, safe environment wherever you decide to birth your baby. They offer non-medical, non-judgemental, reassurance and encouragement.
Doula's provide flexible and continuous support before, during and after birth.
Proven research shows that having constant support from a Doula at the initial stages of labour can effect;
- 25% shorter labours
- 30% decrease in pain relief
- 40% decrease in oxytocin use
- 40% decrease in forceps
- 50% decrease in caesarean sections
- 60% decrease in epidural requests
