About our Services
Physiotherapy
Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy describes the field of Physiotherapy relating to disorders of the musculoskeletal system. This includes disorders affecting bones, joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons and nerves.
Musculoskeletal physiotherapists have postgraduate (Masters Level) qualifications that provide them with advanced skills in managing musculoskeletal problems. They have high levels of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and individualised treatment of patients with musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese medicine used to treat a variety of conditions. In modern medicine, it is widely accepted as an adjunct to (i.e. used alongside) more traditionally accepted treatment methods.
Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into the skin in various defined points along lines known as Meridians. The points used generally depend on the nature of the condition being treated. In western medicine, acupuncture is largely used as a natural means to stimulate the body’s natural pain controlling systems. All Physiotherapists practicing Acupuncture at North Light are members of the Acupuncture Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (AACP).
Pilates
Pilates is a mind body conditioning exercise program that targets the deep postural muscles of the abdomen and spine to improve overall central core stability and posture. Pilates exercises are designed to improve core stability, flexibility, endurance, postural and body awareness, and to correct muscle imbalances. The mind and body are brought together to achieve these aims through the following eight sound principles:
Concentration, centring, breathing, isolation, routine, precision, control and flowing movement.
Pilates provides patients with a method of exercise unique amongst other forms of exercise that focuses on correct movement quality not quantity, core stabilisation and postural correction. Pilates suits all ages and fitness levels and is particularly beneficial for those with back pain, poor postures, sports injuries, neurological conditions, arthritis and also for women during and after pregnancy.
Clare is a fully qualified Pilates instructor and is a member of the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute). Clare uses Pilates exercises as part of her rehabilitation for patients. She is able to teach patients all the essential principles in order for them to improve their body and postural awareness. Clare will work with patients until they are performing their exercises correctly without putting any unnecessary strain on their body. Once confident with their given exercises and positions, patients have the added option of being referred to Pilates Classes at Pure Body Solutions.
