About Gillian Day

Although I’m originally from Australia, my belief in nutrition, herbal medicine and naturopathy was born in the UK when I first moved here in 2002. After trying countless diets in an attempt to shift weight – I researched and adopted a holistic nutrition plan and lifestyle and I’ve never looked back.

I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science (Complementary Medicine) from Charles Sturt University in Australia.
I want to educate and inspire as many people as possible about what I’ve learnt.

Outside of my practice and teaching work; I’m a mum to 1 beautiful girl, Vivienne. If there’s ever any time left I love to cook and practice Bikram yoga.

Why me?

You don’t go ‘off my radar’ between appointments; I’m available by telephone (if I’m busy, leave a message – which I’ll return) and will often ask you to ring me for an update.

Naturopathy

Good health is not just living without disease. It’s important to feel content and motivated about life. We sometimes take this for granted until something goes wrong and we start looking for answers, which can be hard to find.

Naturopathy; also known as naturopathic medicine is a healthcare philosophy that embraces the bodies natural ability to heal itself; together with the healing power of nature. It dates back hundreds of years and was the foundation of medicine prior to pharmaceutical drugs.

Naturopathy is the connection between the structural, biochemical and emotional components of every one of us. This is known as the trio of health. When one of these components is disturbed, the body will become imbalanced and the person may experience ill health or disease.

Naturopathy can be beneficial for a wide range of chronic and acute conditions as well as a general practice for good living.

Overall, a naturopath will encourage and empower you to take responsibility for your own health. This education is an invaluable part of the treatment process. A naturopath will assess and understand your health picture by taking time in a consult to review all aspects including health history, lifestyle, dietary habits, stress levels and environmental influences.”

Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine practitioners use the whole plant as a healing remedy to help the body prevent and treat complaints. Herbal medicine practitioners believe the sum of all of the parts of any one herb will be greater than any isolated part of that plant.

Many pharmaceutical drugs currently being produced are of plant origin, however their chemical compounds have been isolated, and synthesized; making them far more potent than any herb. This often leads to side effects, which at times can be harmful and even dangerous.

Western herbal medicine aims to seek and treat the underlying cause of ill health, with the treatment focusing on the individual patient and not the condition.

Please note – although herbs are natural and work with the body to help restore health and wellbeing; some herbs can be contra-indicated in certain conditions and therefore should always be prescribed by an accredited herbalist or naturopath.

Nutrition

The food we eat is responsible for the nutrients we receive and good nutrition provides the building blocks for health. Your nutritional status will be assessed using functional testing, current dietary intake and deficiency diagnostic tools such as nail and tongue diagnosis.

Naturopaths and nutritionists use therapeutic dosages, which may differ from those found in supplements at supermarkets and retail stores. This is to ensure your needs are met. A thorough practitioner will continually review credible research and traditional evidence to support dosage decisions.

The frequency and number of second and subsequent appointments will vary for every client. This will depend on many factors, including how long you have been ill and how deep seated the condition is.

So what should I expect?

  • Review your current, past and family history- genetic predispositions
  • Deep dive into the health of your individual body systems- why? The body is closely
intertwined…

  • Review recent testing and pathology- and potentially make requests for new blood work

that can affect you on a subconscious health level.

going with new additions to your meals, supplements or test results. The frequency and number of second and subsequent appointments will vary from patient to patient. This will depend on many factors, including how long you have been ill and how deep seated the condition is.

Can I use my nutritional advice in conjunction with my current GP’s advice or specialists medications?

Mel C – 2015
"About a year ago, I began to enter into the perimenopause. My hormones felt all over the place. After always having a pretty much regular 28day cycle, my periods started to come closer together and I began to wake up every night between 3-5am and would remain awake for the next two hours. This went on for months. I felt exhausted all the time, had grey circles around my eyes that wouldn't go. I began to experience migraines frequently which left me feeling nauseous. I felt groggy and forgetful and often had trouble concentrating. I felt drained of energy and drained of life. I didn't really know what had hit me. All I knew was that I felt dreadful most of the time. I went to see my GP who sent me for blood tests. They found that I was low in iron. I have for years struggled with various levels of iron deficiency, so I knew that this was not the cause of all the debilitating symptoms I was experiencing. After doing a bit of online research, I stumbled across Gill. Gill's herbal remedies have literally been a God-send for me, stabilising my hormones and pretty much eliminating my symptoms. I'm so glad to have met Gill, I'm not sure how I would have made it through this phase of life without her. Who knows, perhaps the Doctor would have eventually put me on HRT, but that has it's own risks. The herbal route has definitely worked and is working for me. I feel that with Gill's knowledge and expertise of herbal medicines, I can cope with this transition phase of life."

"I got to know Gillian's knowledge on nutrition by being a student at CNM London and being lucky enough to observe her consultations, which led me to want to seek her advice on a personal level. Since i don't live in London, we do regular Skype consultations which is great for me. Before seeing Gillian, i really struggled with hormones, cravings, insomnia, anxiety, fluctuating weight & cystic acne as well as IBS type symptoms. Now, after seeking her advice, most (if not all) of those symptoms are starting to shift slowly and i'm feeling so much better. Gillian has a vast knowledge on the body's systems, good quality supplements, mind, body & soul techniques, reading test results, nutrition and with all this - gives you back control of your own body by taking things step by step and not overwhelming you with too much to try at once which i've experienced in the past with other therapists. I'd highly recommend Gillian to anyone i know struggling with any kind of problem - big or small - she can explain exactly what is going on inside and what steps you can take to get better naturally."

"I took my 12 year old daughter to meet with Gillian because she has been making bad decisions in food choices and I wanted someone else to help her see that there is a better way to eat without missing out on eating lovely foods. My daughter was so reluctant to go but after the session she told me how lovely Gillian was and that she really enjoyed the session. Gillian gave us some meal ideas and was able to give very good advice on what and when to eat. We will definitely see Gillian again as she made everything very clear in a friendly and manageable way."

"I first met Gill at the College of Naturopathic Medicine in London, where I am studying Naturopathic Nutritional Therapy. I've had the chance to observe a number of consultations in the student clinic led by Gill, and it was easy to see that her style was markedly different from the other therapists I had observed throughout the year. Gill is confident, very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Building a positive relationship with her was very natural, and I feel I am already making giant steps towards better health. I have referred a friend to go see her and he has given great feedback already. I would definitely recommend going to see Gill if you have any concerns regarding your health and well-being: she will definitely point you in the right direction and help you become a better you!"
