Nutritionroots
At Nutritionroots, I work on the fact that our health is affected by what we eat. So my aim is to provide you with the information, guidance and support to make food choices that help you towards your health goals. This is done through adaptations to your diet with gradual changes that are definitely tasty, without cutting out food groups, so that a sustainable, practical way of eating can be followed which does not require a beginning nor an end. It is not a diet, as diet implies restriction, cutting out food groups and general abstinence- not very appealing and therefore often unsuccessful.
Food is one of the great pleasures in life and should be enjoyed. The beauty of it is that food is a natural pharmacy and so at the same time can help you achieve your health goals. As Hippacrates said ” let food be your medicine and medicine be your food”. And this sentiment is really at the heart of nutritionroots.
Facts:
- foods are full of pharmacological agents,
- foods do act as drugs in the body- within foods we have natural laxatives, tranquilizers, anitbiotics,anti-inflammatory agents to name but a few.
- which foods you eat can make a difference to your health
- by making small changes in your diet- eating more of the foods known to have a positive health effects you may prevent or alleviate both acute and chronic conditions
As stated by Jean Carper in the book The Food Pharmacy “ Food is indeed our largest, most complex pharmacy”.
"I believe at Nutritionroots, that food is the root to health. So the aim at Nutritionroots is to eat your way to health."
Nutritional Therapy is?
Nutritional therapy focuses on the fact that our health and wellness is affected by what we eat- we are what we eat. Nutritional therapy promotes a healthy diet and lifestyle to support the body both physically, mentally and emotionally in its own healing process; it does not claim to cure disease.
Nutritional therapy is not a new concept but follows a long since established fact that eating certain foods, adapting our eating habits and cutting down on some foods can have a profound effect on our overall health.
Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, proclaimed food and medicine inseparable and history has since proved it for example in the 1700′s, the cure for scurvy found through eating lemons(Vitamin C); saved thousands of lives.
Nutritional therapy not only provides support for those with specific health concerns but can also be supportive for those aiming for optimum health now or wanting to protect it for the future. It offers everyone the chance to review their diet and look at making changes that may have significant impact on their health whether you are looking to have more energy in the day, add foods that are supportive in times of stress, adapt your diet to help with PMS or prepare yourself for pregnancy.
Benefits of Nutritional therapy:
- An opportunity to fully discuss your health concerns and goals- first consultation is one and a quarter hours. You will have completed and returned a questionnaire before consultation which gives me background to you and your health to date. A protocol, tailored to you will be agreed, specific to your goals.
- It offers everyone the opportunity to consider changes to their diet that could benefit their health not only now but also look to protect it for the future
- You may have a specific health issue to address-conditions that respond well to nutritional therapy include;digestive disorders, allergies and intolerances, inflammatory disorders, weight management, children’s health, pre-conceptual care
- Adding certain diet foods in your diet could boost your mood
- Adaptations to your diet might help you feel more hormonally balanced during the month
- Increasing certain foods and reducing others maybe at the root to you having more energy
