About Shirley
My name is Shirley-Anne Emmerson and I have lived in North Shields for 10years, but in my youth also lived and worked in London and San Francisco. I am a mother to two young boys and a carer to two small cats, a hamster and two fish.
My career began in the retail sector where I fast-track trained as a manager after leaving college. In my role, as a manager, I trained, coached and mentored for over 13years.
When I left retail in 2003, after the birth of my second son, I decided i needed a change of direction. I wasn't sure what new career path I wanted to take - but did know that I wanted to help people improve the quality of their lives. I was drawn to and worked in the voluntary sector for several years dealing, predominately, with new mothers and refugee/asylum seekers.
Working with people who had endured torture, persecution, alienation, and abandonment and who still battled on against the odds, inspired me. I found the most successful way to help my clients was to help empower them to take charge of their own lives and I worked with them to ensure that they had the emotional support and practical tools to do this.
This is why I was drawn to the practise of Life-Coaching. I trained on a course devised by Fiona Harrold (one of the UK's leading Life Coaches) and passed in 2008. The past 12 months has been spent in further study ( Neuro-linguistic Programming and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Techniques) and building up practise hours.
I immensely enjoy my role as a Life Coach. And see it as a privilege working with the wonderful, talented and determined people I have met so far. And look forward to helping many more in the future.
