About Pascaline Risbourg - Registered Osteopath
D.O. BSc (Hons) Ost.
‘I believe that osteopathy is a highly beneficial treatment option for the wear and tear of today’s demanding lifestyle, both physical and emotional.’
Coming from a background of alternative medicine, from a young age, Pascaline formed a keen interest in holistic treatment by natural methods.
Pascaline graduated from the European School of Osteopathy (Maidstone, Kent), where she trained for five years, full time. She is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and has full indemnity insurance.
Her main treatment approach is in the classical style which involves treating the whole body which she combines with other techniques such as cranial osteopathy. These are effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Pascaline also has a particular interest in treating babies and children with poor sleep, excess crying and colic, especially following birth trauma.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy uses ‘hands-on’ techniques to influence the way the body works. By manipulating the muscles, tendons, joints, connective tissue and ligaments, treatment can provide relief to the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, and also the circulatory, respiratory and immune systems of the body. In this way, it is seen as a form of manual medicine which can influence all systems of the body towards a more efficient and holistic state of health. The osteopath will use highly developed skills of palpation (feeling) to find areas of stress, strain or weakness in the body and after making a diagnosis, treat specific areas relating to your complaint. The techniques employed are safe, gentle and effective.
Most people come to see osteopaths because they are in physical pain. Headaches, backaches, neck pain and sporting injuries are the most common complaints that osteopaths treat. Osteopathic treatment is for everyone from young to old, to all family members and can help with a wide and varied range of conditions including:- Back / Neck / Shoulder Pain
- Joint Pain
- Headaches / Migraine
- Sports Injuries
- Restricted Mobility
- Pregnancy Related Problems
- Trapped Nerves / Sciatica
- Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
- Stress Related Problems

- Bad Posture
- Jaw Pain
- Colic and Sleeplessness in Babies

- And almost any pain involving your body structure
Osteopathy for Babies and Clildren
Cranial Osteopathy for babies & children is a gentle and non-invasive technique whereby the practitioner aids the body’s natural self correcting mechanism to relieve trauma that may have occurred during birth.
The movement of the baby through the cervix in labour obliges the head to move in several specific directions whilst undergoing the powerful pressure of the contractions, this naturally causes some overlapping of the skull and compression. Some compressions may be relieved spontaneously after birth as the baby cries or suckles; however this un-moulding process is often incomplete, especially if the birth has been difficult. Babies who have experienced forceps delivery, a long labour or caesarean birth often require the attention of a qualified cranial osteopath.
Symptoms That Can Be Treated With Cranial Osteopathy
Many midwives and health visitors are now recommending new mothers to bring their babies for an osteopathic check up shortly after the birth to prevent the appearance of problems cranial compressions can cause the baby, including:- Discomfort whilst lying on his/her back;
- Excess mucous production;
- Headaches;
- Plagiocephaly, Flat Head or Odd Shaped Head;
- Suckling/Feeding difficulties.
The secondary effects of unresolved cranial compressions are wide ranging and can lead to:- Colic or Excessive Crying;
- Regurgitation;
- Sinus problems;
- Sleep disturbances;
- Suckling/Feeding difficulties;
- Unsettled restless babies.
Osteopathy For Children.
In older children the following symptoms can be treated with cranial osteopathy:- Asthma
- Behavioural difficulties and Attention problems;
- Chronic ear infections or ‘Glue Ear’
- Headaches, aches and pain associated with growing;
- Learning difficulties
The longer a problem is left, the more complex the body’s adaptation becomes and consequently, the more difficult it is to return the body to a state of wellbeing. Several of the conditions we develop in adulthood can be traced back to birth trauma that has been left uncorrected.
