Osteopathy - Sorrel Pindar, BSc, Hons (Ost), MPhil
Welcome to Oxalis Osteopathy. Many people believe that osteopaths only treat back pain, but in fact osteopathy is a treatment approach for the whole of your body, and can restore you to health and well-being. By bringing your problem to me, you take the first step on the road to recovery. I take account of not only your muscle and joint problems, but also the impact of your work and home life, diet, exercise and lifestyle, which can all impact on the pain and dysfunction you experience.
I offer professional and effective treatment for everything from back pain and frozen shoulder to knee problems and plantar fasciitis.
The list of conditions is long, but here is a sample to give you an idea:- Headaches and neck pain
- Shoulder and arm pain
- Frozen shoulder, tennis elbow and other joint problems
- Upper back pain
- Lower back pain and sciatica
- Disc problems
- Hip and knee pain
- Ankle and foot pain, including plantar fasciitis
- Sinusitis
- Irritable bowel syndrome
I treat many types of pain and illness, including acute injuries and chronic problems but also more constitutional problems such as period pains and irritable bowel syndrome. I offer care during pregnancy and after childbirth. I also specialise in the treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome/ME, using the Perrin Technique. (If you are suffering from CFS/ME, take a look at my dedicated website: www.newhopeforme.co.uk).
I cater to a wide variety of patients from working people to children, the elderly and expectant mothers. Anyone can benefit from the osteopathic approach which is gentle enough for children and the very elderly, but powerful enough to help with old, ingrained problems. Even if you don’t have symptoms I also offer a structural health check or “MOT” for preventative healthcare.

About me I am a registered osteopath based in Bedford, close to the town centre.
I originally trained at the London School of Osteopathy, and went on to train as a Perrin practitioner in 2007, which enabled me to offer treatment for CFS/ME. I also have a special interest in the treatment of frozen shoulder and other shoulder problems.
As a registered Osteopath, I am entered on the register of the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). The GOsC protects you by ensuring that Osteopaths meet the required professional standards. I am also a member of the British Osteopathic Association. I participate in an ongoing programme of continued learning, to ensure that my skills and knowledge are kept up-to-date.
Sports Therapy - Harry Constantinou, BSc
For many people sports are an important part of their lives. Even those of us who do not participate in team sports will benefit from regular exercise. However sports injuries can make any kind of exercise difficult. If you have sustained a sports injury it is important to get the right treatment as soon as possible to speed your recovery.
Sports therapy combines gait analysis, physiology and biomechanics to identify the factors underlying an injury by spotting muscular or postural imbalances and weak firing patterns.
I can help with the prevention of injuries, as well as the rehabilitation of a patient back to optimum levels of occupational, functional and sport-specific fitness. Sports therapy can help people regardless of their ability or age.

About me I graduated in June 2012 as a Sports Therapist from the University of Bedfordshire.
From the age of 10 I was involved with dance and performance and I became so passionate about it that by the age of 15, I was competing nationally and internationally. As I grew up I understood the importance of correct training, stretching and management of injuries and the theory behind it intrigued me. Because of my background I specialise in the treatment of dancers, and their particular injuries.
Nutrition – Anna Pugh, BSc
Eating healthily is about improving our health through the food that we eat. The idea of food being used as medicine is as old as the early Greek physicians but we are now learning to use food very specifically to aid health. A diet high in vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids may improve heart function and energy levels, ease joint pain, support the immune system and help you recover from injuries.
It is easy to eat an imbalanced diet based on so many food choices and a busy life. The digestive system isn’t interested in a perfect red apple or a chocolate bar, it is solely concerned with what nutrients and chemicals it has to break down and digest. Informed advice will help you make better food choices and improve your health; no “faddy” fashions but scientific facts about the correct balance of nutrients that your body needs to build health and recover from illness.
The word supportive is important. Good nutritional advice is supportive of the body and a trained nutritional therapist will work with the patient’s GP, or with other therapists and practitioners, to provide the best results. Whether you want to train harder, reduce your cholesterol or improve your energy or menopausal symptoms, food has a vital role to play.

About me I graduated with a degree in nutritional science in November 2010, following a lifelong interest in the association between food and health and a desire to sift the fact from the fiction. I have an interest in all aspects of health including sports nutrition.
Counselling - Julie Fielding
Many personal decisions are made and problems solved through discussion with friends and family. However, there are times when it is right to seek help away from the familiar family environment. Seeking counselling is about making a positive choice to get the help that you need.
A counsellor helps you to focus on and understand more clearly the issues that concern or trouble you.
The counsellor's role is to offer support and understanding, to listen and to respond in a non-judgemental way.
She will respect your values, choices and lifestyle.
She will help you to explore your feelings and may try to help discover what lies behind what is troubling you.

About me I am professionally trained, having qualified in psychotherapeutic counselling from the University of Cambridge. I am accredited by both the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy.
Ongoing counselling supervision for trainees and practitioners is an essential ingredient of effective psychotherapy, in order to maintain ethical practice and to safeguard clients and practitioners. I provide supervision in accordance with the BACP framework. Central to the way I work is to offer a safe, supportive, challenging and creative space in which to explore client work.
"I have a broad experience of counselling, working both privately and within the NHS. I am accustomed to helping people from different backgrounds with a wide range of personal and work issues."
Health Kinesiology - Samantha Sutherland
Health Kinesiology is a powerful form of energy healing and a complementary approach to western medicine. Our natural energy system (Chi) is easily affected by stress and can become unbalanced as a result. Chemical toxins, injury, operations, negative thinking, relationships, grief and shock etc. can all cause stress on our energy system.
Imagine your energy system is a comprehensive road system; when something goes wrong on one road other roads become affected also. Using this imagery, Health Kinesiology uses muscle monitoring to identify the ‘road blocks’, what order to clear them and how best to clear them. Acupressure is then used to actually remove the ‘road blocks’ and restore balance and harmony within the road system. Ultimately, Health Kinesiology identifies and corrects a blocked or disturbed energy pattern and releases it using a combination of acupressure alongside thoughts, touch, magnets or actions.
Health Kinesiology works in the specific areas needed to help you achieve your goal, whether it is physical, emotional or spiritual in nature. Health Kinesiology is so gentle that it is suitable for all ages from newborn to those post-retirement and as muscle testing is used to plan a session, every session is guaranteed to be tailor made.
The gentle, private nature of Health Kinesiology (HK) combined with its methodical approach allows me to support clients in an open and truly holistic way. I have worked with clients of all ages from baby to post retirement, helping them address issues including nail-biting, anxiety, fatigue, allergies, phobias, attachment, poor sleep, performance and physical discomforts. With HK there is always a way!
About me I discovered Kinesiology when I received a session as a gift. These Kinesiology sessions helped me deal with a digestive problem I had suffered with for years, pinpointing that the origin of the problem was a set of linked emotional experiences despite my symptoms being physical ones. I was so impressed that I looked into Kinesiology and energy healing further and spent 2010-2012 studying to become a Health Kinesiologist. I am a member of the Kinesiology Federation and Federation of Holistic Therapists.

Complementary Therapies – Esther Ramsteiner and Samantha Sutherland
At Bedford Integrative Health Centre we offer a number of complementary therapies including reflexology, Reiki and hot stone massage. We currently have two complementary therapists, Esther Ramsteiner and Samantha Sutherland.
Reflexology: The touching and massaging of feet to promote good health has been used by various cultures throughout history. These techniques have been developed into what is now known as Reflexology. By following the principles of stimulating the reflex points in the feet that correspond to the major organs, glands, and body parts, the body is encouraged to “kick-start” itself, promoting self healing as well as encouraging relaxation.
This therapy takes into account the mental, physical and emotional aspects of a person’s life and treats the whole person, not just the symptoms. Manipulation of the various reflex points leads to improved circulation and waste removal, rebalancing and revitalising the whole system.
Indian Head Massage: This is a relaxing treatment that involves a range of different movements over the shoulders, neck, head and face. Indian head massage helps stimulate the flow of blood together with oxygen and nutrients in the upper body. This treatment may help with aches and pains in the neck, back and shoulders, colds, sinusitis, tinnitus, insomnia, scalp and hair problems. The treatment is carried out in a sitting position and no oils are used.
Hot Stone Massage: For hundreds of years, hot stone massage has been used by many different cultures and modern-day therapists apply the same techniques for a wonderfully relaxing massage designed to work on muscle tension at the deepest level. During the treatment, smooth, basaltic (volcanic) rocks that have been heated in water are used in two ways: some stones are wrapped in towels and placed on specific energy centres, known as chakras, along the body to re-balance the body’s natural energy flow, whilst other stones are used by the therapist to perform the body massage.
The benefits of hot stone massage include improved circulation, increased lymphatic drainage (toxin removal), improved blood flow to tissues, reduction of muscular tension, relief of aches and pains, deep relaxation, reduction of stress and anxiety.
Hopi Ear Candles: also known Thermal Auricular Therapy, this is a pleasant and non-invasive treatment of the ears. It is used to offer real and calming benefits for many problems and conditions associated with the ear, nose and throat areas. The process of Hopi candling involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The Hopi candle is then lit and the suction that is formed draws secretions, flow is gently stimulated and the vapour collects and removes impurities or deposits. This is often referred to as the ‘chimney’ effect. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. This is soothing, calming and protects the irritated areas.
Reiki: Tibetan monks originally used Reiki thousands of years ago in meditation as a centre of focus. In its simplest terms Reiki is a universal life force energy, which is also known as 'ki', 'chi', 'prana' and 'spirit'. The practice of Reiki is the channelling of this universal life force energy to promote physical, emotional and spiritual well-being by correcting the energy displacements created by the day-to-day experiences, which distort the natural energy flow through the body.
When channelling the universal life force energy, practitioners offer Reiki with clear intention and the laying on of hands or by holding hands slightly above the body. Reiki practitioners do not diagnose or treat conditions but help create a space for self-healing to occur. Reiki may help clients to gain clarity of thought, reduce/release stress, enhance relaxation, and relieve pain and fears. It may help to deal with frustration and negative thought patterns. Reiki is a gentle practice, which is restorative, energizing and relaxing.
Natural Lift Facial Massage: Natural Lift Facial Massage incorporates a blend of techniques drawn from both Japanese and Indian face massage. It also incorporates complementary techniques from acupressure and facial Reflexology. This treatment may help clients to look and feel younger without using needles or surgery.
Many people may suffer from facial tension which builds up in the facial muscles, causing puffiness, lines and wrinkles. Natural Face Lift Massage is a specially designed treatment which may help to improve the complexion, remove toxins from the face, prevent and reduce facial wrinkles and age spots, increase blood circulation, improve lymphatic flow, stimulate the nervous system, repair and balance the condition of the skin and improve overall health. Usually a series of about 6 regular treatments allows you to see and feel the difference.
