SERVICES Oriental Body Balance (OBB) combines a variety of Eastern and Western techniques to both assess and treat the client - from tongue reading and muscle testing, to deep organ massage and cupping. Unlike some holistic approaches, OBB takes into account the psychology of illness, along with the physical assessment of bone positions, muscles, lymph, internal organs, the energy system, and so on, to improve the client’s general well-being and accelerate recovery.
Good health is our greatest gift and something we all want to achieve and maintain. Western medicine, while excellent if treating many life threatening diseases, and essential surgical interventions, falls short of understanding or effectively treating many chronic diseases and degeneration. Chinese medicine has a unique view of the whole person as an energetic network of interconnecting channels and organs. So it is increasingly being recognised as one of the great resources for promoting health and treating disease.
Chinese medicine is a holistic system which originated in China at least 4000 years ago. Over the centuries it has spread from its origins and can now be found worldwide. It provides the basic philosophical foundation for related medical systems in countries such as Korea, Japan and Vietnam, hence the combined term Oriental Medicine.
OBB is a systematic method for assessing the body holistically to find structural, organ, nutritional, emotional and energy imbalances.
Traditional Chinese techniques and five elements; Yin Yang theory are used to assist diagnosis, and then to treat the condition.
OBB does not follow a set ‘routine’ like for instance, a Swedish body massage. It is tailored to meet the needs of each individual client, depending on their personal and family history, injuries, physical and psychological trauma, structure, chemical and hormonal imbalances, etc. For this reason, a treatment could be wholly based on structural realignment and balance, a digestive massage to release twists and blockages, or a combination of various modalities.
During an OBB session you will remain fully clothed, so it is best to wear comfortable non bulky trousers (e.g. jogging bottoms) and a cotton T-shirt.
OBB is a medical system of assessments and treatment not to be confused with relaxation therapy. Although some of the techniques used are very relaxing, some of the techniques used may feel a little uncomfortable initially. OBB works gently with the body, unlike many other medical techniques which try to force the body to make adjustment.
OTHER SERVICES OFFERED AT THE CLINIC INCLUDE:
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key)
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.
This gentle yet powerful healing treatment involves the healer’s hands being held on, or just above the clothed body, in order to channel a strong flow of this harmonised life force energy of the Universe into the receiver.
The receiver usually experiences this treatment as warm; nourishing; uplifting; deeply relaxing and calming. The effects will be highly individual but always appropriate for you at the time of treatment and may be physical, emotional, mental or spiritual in nature.
Reiki healing is beneficial for everyone, whatever their physical or emotional condition.
Hot Stone Massage can be a dual purpose massage. Due to the heat of the stones, it is always a highly relaxing, stress reduction massage. The hardness of the stones allows the therapist to address specific problem areas with more detailed work or deeper pressure.
Basalt stones of various sizes, shapes and weights are used throughout. Some stones are the size of the tip of your thumb (these are used between the toes), while others can be very large. These larger stones are normally used on the back and legs.
The stones are used in two ways during the massage. One is to impart heat onto the body by laying stones under the client with a towel between the client and stone, and/or on top of the client, again upon a towel. Stone layout typically will be along both sides of the spine, or along the chakra centres on top of the body and small stones would be placed in the hands. While these layout stones are delivering concentrated centres of heat, the therapist is simultaneously massaging the client with oiled, heated stones held in the palm of the hand with firm strokes along the muscles of the legs, arms, and torso areas.
An authentic hot stone massage is not simply the "gliding" of heated stones lightly upon the surface of the skin, but the stones are used as tools to deliver effective tissue and muscle massage at a pressure level comfortable to the client. The client can request light, medium or deep pressure, which is the beauty of the hot stone massage technique. It can be customized in an instant to the request of the client. The hardness of the stones makes for a fantastic deep tissue massage.
A good stone massage, when properly performed, will accomplish many of the goals and benefits of other massage modalities. Many paths often lead to the same destination - and so it is with a great stone massage.
The heat from the stones relaxes muscles, increases the blood flow to the area being worked on, which further accelerates the healing process. This increase in circulation and the relaxation of the muscles also aids in mental relaxation
Therapeutic Massage has been practiced for thousands of years to promote health and well being in both body and mind.
Massage relaxes the whole body, loosens tight aching muscles, increases flexibility and range of motion, reduces mental stress, promotes better sleep patterns and reduces anxiety.
This massage is hands-on and delivers many of the benefits of a Hot Stone Massage.
Sports Massage has all the benefits of therapeutic massage and is the most effective therapy for releasing muscle tension and restoring balance to the muscular system. It helps athletes prevent injuries, and to recover from injuries quickly.
It is a deeper massage and can be focused on target areas. Stretches may be incorporated in to this session.
Indian Head Massage is based on the ancient Ayurvedic healing system. The head, neck and shoulders are gently, firmly and rhythmically massaged, to release tension in the body, stimulating circulation, relieving eye strain and headaches and improving concentration. This treatment will create a sense of wellbeing.
Modern Pilates is a mind and body conditioning programme which helps to build the deep postural muscles of both trunk and spine, giving ‘core stability’.
It helps promote balance, strength, flexibility and stability through a series of functional and progressive exercises tailored for the individual. It is ideal for improving a range of muscular and skeletal problems and conditions, including those related to pregnancy.
Modern Pilates is offered as personal training (1:1); and on a small group basis (up to 6 people) in client’s own home.
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP)
NLP is a bit like an "owners manual" for your brain. It explores the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate both verbally and non-verbally (linguistic), and our patterns of behaviour and emotions (programmes), so we can change these behaviours to become excellent. NLP is also a set of powerful techniques to bring about change to our limiting behaviours.
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is a simple but very effective way of treating a wide range of conditions, established through a state of deep relaxation with full awareness. Working with the unconscious mind we can help to make changes and to gain control over our limiting behaviours.
Time Line Therapy
Time Line Therapy is a collection of techniques allowing you to gain emotional control over your life. Our past experiences and the memories that go with them affect how we approach present day situations. They could be preventing us from expressing ourselves in a way these experiences and memories stop us achieving the results we want. Time Line Therapy techniques can assist us to change all that.
