Professional Massage Therapy for Active People
SERVICES
Welcome to Personal Physique
Complements Physio, Osteopathic and Chiropractic treatment by aiding repair of muscles, tendons and ligaments, Increase the removal of toxins and supply of nutrients to your muscles, Increase and maintain muscle suppleness and joint flexibility, Release chronic tension which creates bad posture.
Soft tissue injuries can be caused in any of three ways, massage therapy compliments the healing process of all three:
Misuse
Muscle fibres/ligaments/tendons are torn because they are over-loaded or over stretched. When healing, fibrous adhesions can develop around the injury causing stiffness and pain to the surrounding area. Massage can help to naturally breakdown these adhesion and temporarily boost circulation and removal of these adhesions.
Overuse
Starting a new fitness regime, stepping up training after a break or compensations for old injuries, can slowly overload muscles causing micro-traumas, which if left unchecked, can lead to more serious injuries like tendonitis. Overuse injuries can occur over days, weeks or even months. Certain massage techniques are very effective at optimising the quick repair of this type of injury.
Disuse
Previous injury or poor posture/running style etc. creates muscular imbalances and dysfunction, sometimes without you even realising it. Movement helps to ‘pump’ nutrients into and waste away from your muscles. A muscle that is moving dysfunctionally means the optimal natural pumping process is compromised. This can lead to a build-up of toxins, meaning a muscle not moving properly, causing an increased build-up of toxins and so on …. The classic “use it or lose it scenario”. Massage is one way to literally ‘kick start’ this pumping action by the rhythmic compression and relaxation of ‘stagnant’ muscles.
About Mark Skoyles
I first became involved in massage therapy as a profession in 1999, when I started working at Marlow Football Club, treating players before, during and after matches.
It is a job I still enjoy doing today, dealing with matchday injuries and treating players coming back from injury. Helping men & women return fully fit to their sport, at whatever level is a particular passion of mine.
I am currently in the fourth year of study for a Sports Therapy BSc (Hons) degree course.
