Welcome to Pilates in Brighton

Pilates in Brighton is founded by Carolyn Bailey MCSP a physiotherapist and clinical pilates instructor with over 20 years in the fitness industry who has worked at Londons top pilates studios and as Physiotherapist for Rambert Dance Company.

On relocating to Brighton in 2010 she has set up the studio in Kemp town with the aim of providing small professional classes based on evidenced research which are challenging and fun in a peaceful supportive environment. She is passionate about helping you to understand your own body and believes that it is the mind body connection that makes these techniques so effective.

Clinical pilates ensures your pilates workout will be safe and effective even if you are in pain or have a injury.

A session at Pilates in Brighton is guaranteed to lift your body, mind and spirit.

Yoga

Vinyasa Yoga means flowing yoga. Each pose flows into the next creating a constant moving meditation through the asanas. The breath or prana is key to moving the body so we can concentrate on developing and moving through the class with the breath guiding us.

This form of Yoga is interesting and constantly changing creating a dynamic mind and body experience. Breathing exercises are incorporated at the beginning of the class and meditation and relaxation at the end and the classes can either be general or specific (i.e. back bends, hips, shoulders etc…) Come and join me for this exciting form of Yoga and experience new ways of discovering what your body and mind can do. Suitable for all levels but some previous experience of Yoga is recommended as it can be a quite fast paced class.

Garuda

Garuda combines the strength work of pilates, the breathwork and asana practices of yoga and the grace of dance.

The benefits of Garuda include increased strength, flexibily, coordination and endurance with a greater sense of ease and wellbeing. Garuda draws deeply on mental focus and teaching relaxation through movement. Like yoga garuda also massages the internal organs and aids in detoxification.

Garuda is a non stop flowing class that is challenging and mindful. You will leave feeling invigorated. It is suitable for anyone with some experience of yoga and or pilates.

Physiotherapy Rehab and Clinical Pilates

Do you have pain sitting at your computer? Persistent niggles? Are you developing new aches and pains over a period of time? Suffering from a recurrent injury? A sports person who is performing below par? Clinical pilates can help you.

Physiotherapy treatment often involves the use of exercises for low back and neck pain, repetitive strain injuries, shoulder and knee problems and sports injuries.

Clinical pilates is an innovative approach to physiotherapy using research based treatment techniques on the clinical pilates equipment. Clinical pilates is taught by experienced physiotherapists with post graduate training in clinical pilates and movement dysfunction ensuring that your sessions are effective and safe.

As well as treating the symptoms we aim to identify the cause, correct the postural problem, muscle imbalance or movement dysfunction and most importantly make sure your problem or pain does not recur.

Clinical pilates for sports injuries – This is where pilates equipment comes into its own allowing the physiotherapist to create an exercise programme based on the physical requirements of the specific sport whether that be running, tennis, golf, cycling etc. Faulty movement patterns can be identified which are then reinforced with correct movement patterns that can improve technique and performance.

Advance rehabilitation can be achieved for athletes and dancers however the same principles will be apply if you are an occasional sports enthusiast or have just taken up a new hobby.

What happens in a clinical pilates session?

Our physiotherapist will assess you by looking at your posture and the way you use your body in certain activities paying particular attention to movements that cause your pain. The cause of your symptoms or pain will be identified and fully explained to you. This may be from an injury or the compensation your body has made to this, a postural fault or a repetitive movement you make either at work or in training for sports.

An individual exercise programme on the pilates equipment will be designed for you that aims to correct these faults and retrain or strengthen muscles that may have become weak or do not activate correctly.
