SERVICES
Services
Sports Massage Therapy
I predominantly provide sports massage using deep tissue techniques, stretches and trigger point therapy to treat not only existing injuries and for injury prevention, but to also to treat chronic pain sometimes without a known cause. I work on trying to get to the root of ongoing aches and pains or discomfort which can cause great misery that many of us tend to just put up with, or in a sense learn to live with. Some may feel they have exhausted all treatment avenues without success and not know which way to turn. I work in an holistic way viewing both the physical body and the emotional state of mind as one. So many symptoms of chronic pain can be associated to ones general well being, for this reason as well as treating the symptoms it is usually beneficial to look at other aspects in your life that may be affecting your well being such as your physical activity and diet. Should you want a more relaxing massage I can of course adjust the speed and pressure to sooth away your stresses in a relaxed environment.
Personal Fitness Training
The personal training I provide will increase your overall fitness making day to day life much easier using functional exercises and different intensity training depending on your goals. Whatever level you are at, whether that be a complete beginner where exercise is concerned, someone returning to exercise after a break or an experienced fitness fan needing some additional structure and motivation to up your game, I can tailor a personalised program to suit you and help you achieve your goals. This can take place at your home or we can meet with in any number of open space locations in Sussex really making the most of our sea air and local countryside. Alternatively if you are a member of a gym and would prefer to use equipment you are familiar with I can usually meet you there with prior arrangement with your club.
Nutritional Guidance and weight Management
Atkins Diet, South Beach, Weight Watchers, Slimming World, Paleo, Slim-Fast, Lighter Life, Herbalife, Dukan, 5:2... Like most people at some point or another you have probably tried a few if not all of them. Some of them ridiculous others more appear more promising, most will work but NONE of them will be sustainable long term! Yo-yo dieting exists because of these false promises. If you are fed up of feeling overweight and lethargic, not feeling as good about yourself as you could then I can help. No gimmicks, no sins, no points or starving yourself just straight forward education on how to maintain consistent weight loss by following a HEALTHY DIET with some low intensity exercise. Healthy eating doesn't have to be boring or bland in fact the complete opposite is usually experienced as you may end up trying foods and flavours you never realised were out there. Salubrious Living's three week course will help you understand nutrition. You will learn what your body needs, how much and how often and help you build a healthy relationship with food. You will have access to delicious new recipes whatever your cuisine preference and most important of all I will be here to support you throughout. I will only be a phone call or email away if you are having 'one of those days' and just need some encouragement. I am dedicated to providing a friendly and personal 1-2-1 service so you don't have make those changes on your own. Just remember NO DIET CAN DO WHAT HEALTHY EATING CAN!

About
Salubrious Living was founded by Shalina in 2014 to enable her to share her skills and knowledge with others in hope of helping people achieve inner happiness and good health.
MY BACKGROUND
I predominantly worked in property investment managing an office full time for many years before deciding to retrain. I wanted to find a better work-home life balance to spend more time bringing up my daughter. I was feeling so bogged down with working ridiculously long hours in a thankless environment (something many of you will relate to) that I decided it was time for change.
With a keen interest in my own personal fitness I have successfully run the Brighton Marathon and various half marathons around the country so, when deciding what to do with my new burst of ambition I decided in 2012 to retrain as Personal Trainer. Not only would I obtain a better understanding of the bio-mechanics of the human body relating to my own exercise I would also be able to merge an interest with making a living. Anatomy & Physiology have always been an interest of mine so I saw it as a fantastic opportunity.
Unfortunately with hard training came a few sports related injuries (on top of previous whiplash from a car accident in 2004). I found myself needing remedial treatment on my neck and back. Along with years of sitting at a desk holding the phone with my shoulder, constant pain started to set in. Due to the unmanageable cost any professional treatment such as chiropractic or osteopathy it was deemed more a luxury than a necessity. As such the sporadic visits meant recovery never really happened and the neck pain turned in to chronic shoulder pain too. If only I realized then it would get worse!
This is where the next chapter of my journey began. Once money permitted it was then a challenge to find the right type of therapy that would address the original problems of whiplash and poor posture AND help get me back to where I needed to be physically for the fitness training. Further research lead me down the road to increasing my knowledge of the human body with respect of pathology and injuries. I then decided to formalize that interest by training in Sports Massage Therapy qualifying at level 3 in early 2014 and up to level 4 in early 2015. I have completed various other courses to expand my professional development.
As part of my Personal Training Diploma I also studied sports nutrition which I really enjoyed. Since then I took my interest that little bit further and now work as a freelance Weight Management Practitioner offering nutritional advice and education on a healthy lifestyle and weight loss. I hope to eliminate those non sustainable diets out there and give support whilst doing so. From all of the research I have conducted for my personal diet I have become a vegan because I genuinely believe that is the healthiest way to eat. As much wholefood as possible and reducing the amount of processed foods consumed so that I can truly know what I am putting in to my body. PLEASE NOTE this does not need to reflect on what food you wish to eat as it is the nutrients themselves along with quality and quantity that will determine your health and weight.
Early next year I will be studying a naturopathic nutrition diploma to look more closely at how we can work with our immune system and use our diets to heal ourselves thus reducing the amount of pharmaceutical medicines we take on board.
