Welcome to Saraya Afolabi Reflexology. Here you will discover the benefits of reflexology and how it can help you. I offer professional treatments for everyone, be it to relieve stress, help relax, aid sleep, or simply to indulge yourself and improve your wellbeing.
About Me I am a qualified Reflexologist, having trained at the Central London College of Reflexology in London's Covent Garden and I'm a full member of the Association of Reflexologists (MAR). I treat men and women of all ages, providing a professional yet caring treatment to clients with a variety of needs and requirements; some of my most popular treatments focus on providing stress relief, easing pain, and encouraging relaxation. My experience also includes giving reflexology treatments to women recovering from breast cancer at Cancerkin's East London Project at St Joseph's Hospice.
What is Reflexology
What happens in a treatment?
Sessions usually last 45 minutes to one hour. A case history is taken at the first meeting to determine the best approach to treatment. You will be asked about your medical background, current health and lifestyle. All you will then do is bare your feet, lie back and relax. The treatment itself is usually relaxing and consists of a variety of techniques applied by thumbs and fingertips to reflex points over the feet and ankles. Firm pressure is applied to the relevant area causing physiological changes to take place in the body. You may find that some areas are tender or have a strange sensation; a reflex point which shows up as tender indicates that there is an imbalance of energy in that area, and workting that reflex can help to dissipate the problem. The treatment is a two-way process with plenty of feedback from the client.
A one hour treatment is popular with individuals looking for a:
- Powerful stress reliever
- Commencing a course of treatments
- Targeting a particular condition/imbalance
How will Reflexology affect me?
As each person is unique, responses to reflexology will be very individual. However, there are some generalisations that can be made. Ideally after a treatment, it is best to have nothing major planned and to be able to relax for an hour or two. You may feel light and "floaty" or sleepy. You may find that you need more sleep and food for a couple of days following the treatment. The body also purges itself of waste and toxins with increased elimination/urination which is why it is important to drink plenty of water and if possible avoid toxins such as caffeine and alcohol.
How will I feel after a treatment?
Most people experience a sense of well-being and relaxation; sometimes people report feeling lethargic, nauseous or tearful, but this is transitory and is a part of the healing process. This is vital information to feedback to the Reflexologist as it shows how your body is responding to treatment. This will help the Reflexologist to tailor a treatment plan according to your needs.
How Can Reflexology Help Me
Reflexology is popularly used by many as a means of relaxing the mind and body in order to counteract stress. Aproximately 70% of disorders can be caused by stress and nervous tension. Many doctors and health professionals regard Reflexology as a well established respective and effective therapy. Reflexology helps to alleviate the effects of stress by reducing inducing deep relaxation, allowing the nervous system to function normally and free the body to seek it's own balance. A relaxed body can heal itself and reflexology is an assured way of relaxing the body and balancing the biological systems, cleansing the body of toxins and impurities.
Reflexology may help with the following conditions including:
Stress related conditions such as:
- Sleep Disorders
- Stress related digestive disorders
- Anxiety
- Headaches, Migraines
- Fatigue
Other conditions that Reflexology might help are:
- Joint Pain
- Muscle Tension
- Hormonal imbalance
- Fertility Issues
Are there any reasons why I cannot receive a treatment?
If you are suffering from a fever, your body is already in a healing process and therefore no further treatment should be given. I won't be able to treat if your feet are severely infected or there is a lot of broken skin. If you are under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, I will not treat. In most cases, I should be made aware of any medical condition you have, drugs you are prescribed or if you are pregnant and the treatment will be adjusted accordingly.
How often should I have Reflexology?
It may take more than one treatment for those who are seeking it to improve their health and wellbeing. Improvements can usually be seen after four or so weeks; often between 6-8 weekly sessions are advised to ensure that the positive effects are longer lasting.
