The osteopathic clinic at Mill Court are part of Oxford Brookes University's School of Health and Social Care. They are the first osteopathic teaching clinics in the country accredited and based within a university.
About Mill Court (Oxford)
The clinics are staffed by highly qualified and experienced osteopathic tutors, and by students, in the latter stages of their rigorous training in osteopathy.
Students assess and treat clients under the close supervision of the osteopathic tutors. The clinics provide a full range of osteopathic treatments across the lifespan (ante/postnatal, children, adults and older people). They also provide comprehensive treatment options for sports injuries and follow-up care.
What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is an established, state regulated and recognised system of diagnosis and treatment which places its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It is distinctive in that it recognises that much of the pain and disability we suffer from stems from poor function of the body's structure as the damage caused by disease and trauma.
... ensuring that the whole body begins to work and move in a more balanced way
We can help!
Osteopathy uses many of the diagnostic procedures used in conventional medical assessment and diagnosis, but its main strength lies in the unique way the client is assessed from a mechanical, functional and postural standpoint. Post-diagnosis, a manual method of treatment is applied to suit the needs of the client. Our aim is to restore tissue flexibility where it has been reduced or lost, allowing the whole body to work and move in a more balanced way.
What happens in an osteopathic consultation?
A thorough case-history will be taken. The student osteopath will discuss the history with his/her tutor and discuss the possible reasons for the problem (differential diagnosis), and then they will examine the client and treat appropriately. If the problem cannot be treated osteopathically, the tutor and student team will recommend an appropriate referral.
The consultation will take a little longer than it would if the client were going to a private practice. This allows for tutor and student discussion, with a great deal of attention to detail, whilst remaining significantly lower in price.
Parental presence is required during all children's consultations.
Fees
Every session costs £20 regardless of its length and when in the context of the teaching clinic (for details of concessions and free assessments see below). Payment is only acceptable in cash or by cheque, normally made at the end of each consultation.
