What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a natural and non invasive complementary therapy that uses natures own healing methods to treat the body as a whole and to help the body to regain and retain its natural balance.
'Reflexology dates back to Egyptian times and can be applied to the feet or hands'
It is based on the principle that there are reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all the glands, organs and other parts of the body. Using the thumb and fingers on these reflex areas a trained reflexologist can offer significant relief to many ailments including, but not limited to: - Relief of stress and tension
- Improved blood supply
- Promote unblocking of nerve Impulses
Reflexology encourages the body’s elimination of toxins and helps release endorphins, which are the body’s natural painkillers. It reduces stress and tension and revitalises energy.
MATERNITY REFLEXOLOGY
Maternity reflexology is benefitial as part of pre-conceptual care to those looking to conceive. It can also help relief associated symptoms during pregnancy and help balance the body post birth. Many clients looking to conceive, or already pregnant, have heard that reflexology might be able to help them. Helen specialises in Maternity Reflexology which she studied under the renowned expert and retired midwife, Susanne Enzer (RN, RSCN, SCM, RZT).
Massage Types
Massage has a huge number of benefits to all the bodies systems. By massaging and relaxing specific muscles there is a knock on effect to other parts of the body. Massage will also bring about relaxation, bringing a state of homeostatsis, a place of balance where the body can repair and renew.
Through over use and also through stress muscles can stay in a contracted state. This causes imbalance in the body. Tight muscles will pull posture out of alignment and can restrict bloodflow leading to headaches and/or cramps.
Two varieties of massage are available:Massage for Stress/Relaxation:
This is a holistic massage which offers a softer, more relaxing session. Although it should be noted that where deep tissue massage is required (knotted or tense muscles) the massage can be more vigourous. Remember that each session will be tailored to suit the needs of you as an individual.
Remedial/Sports Massage:
This type of massage is specific for a particular muscle group. The session is much more intense and focuses on a specific area(s) where a pain or an injury may have occurred. Sometimes athletic people prefer this form of massage to the holistic type. It is all a question of preference.
