BODY MASSAGE
Massage can be very relaxing, soothing and comforting, and is excellent for stress relief and for conferring a sense of well-being, and, indeed, self-worth. Massage has profound effects on the body. It improves circulation (and can temporarily lower blood pressure), aids digestion, relaxes muscles, and stimulates the lymphatic system, thereby accelerating the elimination of waste products. It can also improve the quality of rest and sleep.
The connection between high levels of stress and ill-health are well known; the relaxing and therapeutic qualities of touch (and therefore massage) have long been overlooked in our increasingly mechanised culture - particularly in Britain! Regular massage is deemed important in the ancient Indian system of Ayurvedic medicine.
SPORTS & REMEDIAL MASSAGE
Sports massage is similar to body massage, but deeper work is involved, utilising further techniques. Aimed mainly at the large muscle groups in the back, shoulders and limbs, but adapted to suit the individual’s requirements. “Mixing and matching” of Body and Sports Massage techniques can be accommodated to suit the client and his/her needs.
Remedial massage is primarily aimed at assisting with the healing of sports and related injuries, e.g., tennis elbow, sprained ankles, and problems with the back, shoulders, legs, knees, etc. More specialised massage techniques may be used, or the application of cold and/or heat may be necessary.
REFLEXOLOGY
Reflexology is the name given to the application of a specific pressure technique to the feet (or hands – more convenient for working on oneself at home), which are regarded as reflecting or mirroring all the bodily organs and structures via subtle energy connections, or reflexes.
Reflexology assists in balancing the body's energy system by releasing energy blockages in the etheric body (part of our subtle anatomy), and thereby helping the body to heal itself.
Congestion or tension in any part of the feet may indicate an imbalance in a related part of the body. Treating the feet can thus have a relaxing and healing effect on the whole body by unblocking energy pathways, restoring the free flow of energy and nutrients throughout the whole bodily system.
The treatment can be surprisingly relaxing, and people frequently fall asleep during sessions! Having regular treatments helps to maintain health and well-being, and optimises the benefits to be had.
AROMATHERAPY
Aromatherapy combines the use of a relaxing massage with essential oils to encourage healing and the maintenance of vitality. Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts, the volatile components of which are absorbed by the skin; they have many benefits - physical, emotional and psychological - and their use goes back thousands of years.
The oils can also be used in the home in vaporisers, inhalers, baths, etc., but massage is generally the preferred option - providing the most stress relief, and usually the most enjoyable, relaxing and beneficial!
An aromatherapy session begins with a consultation, after which an individual blend of essential oils is selected; personal needs and preferences are taken into account here. Alternatively, the most beneficial oils for the client may be selected by dowsing.
Traces of essential oils will inevitably be left on the skin after a session, and are best left there to gain maximum benefit from the treatment. They can be hard to wash out of clothes, so don’t wear your Sunday best!
AQUA DETOX®
Aqua Detox® is the revolutionary way to detoxify and re-balance the body. The Aqua Detox apparatus resembles a foot spa – all you do is sit with your feet immersed in salt water for 30 minutes – except that the machine imparts to the water a bio-energetic field; this allows a gentle bio-energetic resonance to travel through the body, stimulating all of the body’s cells. This encourages the body to re-balance, enabling the cells, and therefore the organs, to perform efficiently and release any build-up of toxins. Organs which may benefit especially are the liver, kidneys and gall bladder; joints, the circulatory system, and metabolism in general, also benefit. Toxins, which may include heavy metals, leave the body via the feet, each of which have in excess of 2,000 pores. The water may gradually turn yellow, orange or brown - possibly with undertones of green – and a fatty scum usually develops.
A course of from 6-8 treatments is usually recommended for a good initial self-detox, though just one session can make a difference, and may confer a sense of lightness or well-being. The treatment is unsuitable for those who wear a pacemaker, have epilepsy, or are pregnant.
THERMAL AURICULAR THERAPY (HOPI EAR CANDLES)
Ear candles are made from organic bleached linen and pure beeswax, and contain a range of herbs and herbal extracts. They are efficacious in many conditions, including: headache, migraine, sinusitis, rhinitis, tinnitus, snoring, excess ear wax, lymphatic congestion, ´flu, balance, swollen glands, hearing difficulties, and allergic symptoms.
This therapy increases blood circulation to the head and neck, improves lymphatic drainage and toxin elimination, revitalises the body, balances energy flows in the body, releases stagnant energy, and improves alertness and awareness.
INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE
An Indian Head Massage includes work on the back, neck, shoulders, arms, scalp and face. It improves circulation to the skin in these areas, assists with lymphatic drainage, relieves tension, headaches and eyestrain, improves concentration, boosts the immune system, and confers a general feeling of well-being. It also helps to balance energies within the chakra system, which in turn helps to ward off ill-health.
Indian Head Massage originated with the ancient Indian healing system of Ayurveda, which dates back about 4,000 years; it can be regarded as the oldest system of holistic therapy, and is still practised today. It is only in very recent years that Indian head massage has gained in popularity in the West, where the procedures have become formalised and systematised, though every teacher and practitioner of the system develops their own style of delivery. The massage procedure can be delivered over clothes where deemed necessary, and lends itself to being provided in the office or workplace.
