CLINIC * OFFSHORE * WORKPLACE
I have given thousands of massages over the years, mostly in my own treatment room, but also on oil rigs, in offices, on sports fields, and in shopping centres! And, 30 years on, I still enjoy every one I give and delight in the varied and individual benefits each person experiences.
Massage is about muscles!
We all have them and we all abuse them, whether by being a ” slouch potato”, spending hours at a computer, carrying children or running marathons.
Our muscles move us around. But they also keep us upright and stationary – sitting still is a hugely demanding muscular activity. When we stress our bodies further with injury, exhaustion, emotions (watch what happens to someone’s posture when they’re sad), high heels, shopping bags our poor muscles have to work even harder. The golden rule we know (and usually ignore!) applies to our muscles too: “working under stress is detrimental”.
What our muscles need is a good balance of exercise, relaxation and stretching. Many people think that exercise and stretching are synonymous, and that relaxation means slouching in front of the telly. In fact, exercise shortens certain muscle groups and can contribute as much to postural problems as inactivity. Stretching involves holding specific positions to allow a muscle to lengthen. Relaxation is a conscious process of releasing tension while also quietening your mind.
So how can massage help you?
The massage I offer is deep and complete. It helps to maintain and restore health and to lessen your risk of further injury. It stretches and balances muscles, flushes out toxins, helps posture and strengthens your ability to fight infection. It is deeply relaxing, helping you to sleep well, and giving you more energy to face your day.
Massage sessions
I work from home on the edge of Westhill. Massage sessions are one hour long and cost £40.
Shaw Method swimming
Transform your experience of swimming with the Shaw Method
The Shaw Method, founded in 1987 by Steven Shaw (pictured above with pupil), applies the principles of the Alexander Technique to swimming. Thousands of people, in many countries around the world, have developed their core swimming skills and transformed their experience of the water through this approach. The Shaw Method teaches people to use their body and mind without strain, both in and out of the water, improving poise and flexibility and promoting good body alignment, thus minimising the risk of injury.
The Shaw Method is taught in the water with the student: hands-on direction, demonstration, verbal guidance and video feedback are combined in a dynamic, effective and enjoyable form of instruction, and adapted to suit the individual.
Swimming lessons
I teach Shaw Method private lessons tailored to your needs and aims. I also teach group classes in Aberdeen with Steven Shaw about twice a year (see pic!). The lessons will never push you beyond what feels safe, but be ready to be surprised at what you can do!
All levels are catered for, from novice swimmers to those wishing to compete.
