Most people aren’t aware that nearly every case of back pain is down to underlying muscle Imbalances, and postural dysfunctions therefore strong painkillers, injections and surgery can all be avoided once muscles have been brought back into balance.
We recommend that you download our FREE Pain Relief Guide. The guide will provide you with information on exactly what you need to say to your GP to get a quick referral, as well as very effective short and long-term back pain relief strategies.

Where’s your Pain?
Before you can begin to deal with your back or neck pain, you firstly need to identify which condition you are suffering from. The most advisable course of action in the first instance, depending on the severity of your pain, would be to book an appointment with your GP to get a professional opinion. In most cases your GP will prescribe painkillers and tell you to come back if the problem persists. That is fine for the more trivial problems such as trapped nerves and minor back ache.
However, if you suspect that you have something more serious such as a slipped disc or sciatica and you are in excruciating pain, it is imperative that you get an MRI scan as soon as possible. This can sometimes take a long time through the NHS system due to the costs involved but, you do have rights and there are things you can say to your GP to hurry the process along. All of this information can be found in our Free Pain Relief Guide
It is generally safe for most people to take over the counter pain killers and muscle relaxants such as Paracetamol and Ibuprofen for a couple of days to help with most back pain conditions. However, it is very important that you start to deal with the underlying problem that is causing your back pain as soon as you feel able to.
Always remember! The more knowledge you have about your condition the better!
We have listed the most common back pain conditions below, each one links to more information about the condition with further links to our recommended back pain treatments.

Treatments
There are plenty of back pain treatments available, however, the most Important issue to remember when considering the most appropriate course of action is that knowledge is power.
One of the problems with over-the-counter and prescribed pain relievers such as ibuprofen, paracetamol and Diclofenac is that the benefits are very short term. These medicines work only on the symptoms and do nothing to cure the root cause of the issue. This is fine in so far as a quick fix for instant relief of chronic pain is concerned, however these medications do not offer anything at all in the way of long-term help.
In extreme cases, these drugs can have a detrimental effect on the stomach and upper intestine, causing bleeding and ulceration. It is because of these potential issues, that natural back pain treatments are considered to be the best course of action in most cases. When visiting your doctor with back pain it is very unlikely that he/she explore the reasons why you might be suffering with back pain in the first place.
This is generally down to a lack of knowledge when it comes to very specific areas of the body, especially the back. GPs are under a lot of pressure to save money where they can, So you will find that they will usually prescribe pain killers and muscle relaxants in the first instance, hoping that your pain will disappear and you won’t need any further treatment.

About Us
The British Back Institute was founded by Sam Hutchinson and George Heath in 2012.
Based on Sam’s personal experience of suffering from a slipped disc and sciatica in 2010, he teamed up with fitness and rehabilitation expert George Heath, along with core strength and pilates guru Lucy Potucek, to launch The British Back Institute.
Our mission
We know from personal experience and professional knowledge that most cases of back pain can be dealt with no matter how severe the pain is, or where in the back or neck the pain is. What is even more encouraging is that there are ways of dealing with nearly every condition avoiding potentially dangerous traditional treatments such as surgery, injections and strong painkillers.
We have made it our life’s mission to help as many people as possible to overcome back pain, neck pain and sciatica by firstly helping you to identify and deal with the underlying cause of the problem, rather than just addressing the symptoms.
Our Vision
- To empower and enlighten people by highlighting flaws in the current UK medical system when it comes to dealing with back and neck pain.
- To change the way people view diagnosis and treatment of back pain.
- Most importantly, to bring lasting relief to the many thousands of people suffering from debilitating back pain in the UK and around the world.
We will achieve these goals by firstly listening closely to our clients, and only offering the most effective products, services, and resources available anywhere in the world together with a wealth of carefully researched advice and information.
