What is Thai Massage?
Thai massage is often described as ”lazy yoga” Thai massage uses the palm, thumb, elbow and foot to apply firm pressure, but never to the point of discomfort or pain. Thai massage also stimulates the acupressure points in relation to the concept of energy lines in order to provide relief, to stretch and loosen tightened muscles and to release tension and relieve joints. Thai massage leaves you feeling relaxed and energised.
In addition, Thai massage uses the technique of blocking and releasing the blood flow by applying sustained pressure for around 30 seconds to the areas where legs and arms meet the torso. This is a real circulation booster. When the pressure is released, you suddenly feel a rush of heat as the blood-flow returns to your limbs.
Moreover, the massage involves stretching techniques. The stretches are slow so your body has time to respond; your muscles regain their elasticity. Regular Thai Massage helps to maintain the improvements you have gained from previous sessions.
A massage:
- Helps relieve stress and boost energy
- Helps relieve muscle tension and stiffness
- Reduces muscle spasms
- Improves your flexibility and blood flow
- Relieves tension-related headaches and the effects of eye-strain
A massage can’t be given if you have:
- A fever (over 38 degrees)
- Serious bruising
- Swelling
- A fracture
- A serious wound or cut
- Cancer
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes
To make sure you get the maximum benefit from your massage, please read the following advice.
Before the Massage:
Firstly, don’t eat too soon before your massage. It’s best to allow some time after your meal (at least 30 minutes) to digest food. You should also not drink any alcohol.
Talk to your masseuse before the massage begins, letting her know about any allergies that you have to oils, balm, lotions, essential oils and so on. Also let her know about relevant medical information, especially the reason why you are having the massage.
During the Massage:
Let your masseuse know if she is doing anything that you don’t like, or ask her to focus on certain areas of your body for longer periods of time.
After the Massage:
Don’t get up too fast as this can make you feel a little lightheaded or dizzy. Drink extra water after the massage as this helps the body to rehydrate.
