Couselling
We all experiences difficulties, painful events, traumas and losses at some point in our lives, but knowing who to turn to for support and understanding can sometimes be difficult. As a result we can often feel very isolated and alone.
Crises in life can often propel us forward to search for understanding and a confidential and insightful counselling relationship where you feel safe to talk and explore your feelings and your situation can make a difference for you.
Counselling can offer you a space to reflect and feel supported through the various transitions in life; it can untangle thoughts and feelings, enabling decisions to be made and confidence to be regained, allowing you to move towards a more satisfactory future. Through this process of self discovery, you will be able to recognise what you need to grow and move towards your full potential.
Many people discover that they emerge from their crisis stronger and more resourceful, with a new and growing acceptance of themselves and can then move on to make any changes that are necessary.
................................................................
As a professional Counsellor I feel that change can occur when we feel truly listened to and understood.
I offer a safe, non judgemental and confidential therapeutic relationship in which you can explore your issues, concerns or fears that may be causing you frustration or distress. My aim is to enable you to discover your true potential and to find a more satisfying way of being and functioning in your personal, professional and social worlds.
I believe that every person has the capacity to grow towards their own unique identity, to reach their own potential and also have the resources necessary to know what is best for them. Counselling can enable you to begin to access those resources. I make the assumption that we are each experts on ourselves and given the right environment are able to make use of our own expertise.
................................................................
At the core of my work with both individuals and groups is the understanding that we grow and understand ourselves in relationship - with those around us, our environment and ultimately, our own unique relationship with ourselves.
My particular theoretic approach is informed in the main by the humanistic and transpersonal psychologies and also draws on my own experiences and trainings in a variety of Body Work disciplines. This I feel allows for an integrated approach, allowing for exploration of the whole person, involving Mind, Body and Spirit.
I offer varying levels of therapy to meet the needs of the individual, from short term work for those seeking to resolve a relatively minor issue, to longer term work for others needing to form a deeper professional relationship in order to resolve more complex or longer standing problems.
The issues I work with include• Abuse

Sound Therapy
Sound healing can be described as the therapeutic application of sound frequencies to the body/mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health.
Everything in the universe vibrates. Substances that appear solid are in fact made of molecules that are all vibrating at different frequencies, depending upon the material they are made from. These vibrations give off a frequency that can be measured or converted into cycles per second (CPS) or Hertz (Hz).
The human ear can hear between 16-16,000 CPS or Hz. Many of the frequencies given off by objects in the world around us are either below or above our range of hearing. Although we may not be able to hear these sounds, as resonant beings, we are deeply affected by all that we interact with on a daily basis. Often the sights and sounds that surround us can feel discordant, making us feel out of balance and can cause us to disconnect with
our sense of self.
Every organ, bone and cell within the human body vibrates too, has its own frequency and therefore sounds. If we were able to hear this, we may compare it to an orchestra that produces a symphony of sound that is as unique as a finger print.
................................................................
Sound can be used to correct imbalances on all levels of being, emotional, physical and spiritual. It works with the energy body, or aura and the energy centres of the body, the Chakras.
Sound waves travel effortlessly through the body. During a sound therapy treatment, gentle, harmonious sounds bathe the whole body at a cellular level. This 'sonic massage' helps the system to balance itself by releasing the denser energy that can hold the body in an unhealthy state. It is about retuning and rebalancing, therefore creating harmony, allowing the body to find its own optimum vibration.
During our waking state, the normal frequency of our brain waves is that of Beta. Sound tools entrain the brain to move into the deeper Alpha and Theta brain wave frequencies. These are the frequencies that induce deep meditative and peaceful states, clarity of mind and intuition. Modern medicine can now measure and confirm the practice of sound as a means to promote healing. Thus, sound is a type of energy medicine that creates the sacred space in which people can heal from stress disorders, pain, depression, the emotional roller coaster and more.

Therapeutic Voice Work
Discover how you can awaken your voice and connect to your Soul Voice.• Do you have difficulty expressing yourself?
• Do you experience a lack of self-confidence in the sound or strength of your voice?
• Do you fear having to speak in public?
• Do you fear rejection if you were to express your true feelings?
• Have you felt silenced for your ideas or for who you are?
• Have you felt embarrassed by the very sound of your voice, told you cannot sing or been told to 'mouth the words' in the choir?
• Have you habitually held yourself back because the voices of your gender, race or sexual orientation were not welcomed in the institutions or organisations you were associated with?
Therapeutic voice work can enable you to• Discover your own voice and sounds in a safe and supported way. It is not about singing or doing it 'right'
• Express yourself more freely and learn to trust your intuition.
• Let your creative spirit shine in your everyday life or in special projects you want to pursue
• Enjoy the pleasure of singing with family or friends without fears of how you sound
• Know yourself and your inner voice more intimately By allowing our selves to rediscover our true feelings and express all of our emotions, whatever they may be, these deep patterns can be accessed through the voice using therapeutic voice work. Areas of holding and energetic blocks held within the body can be connected to and then expressed and released using a variety of deep emotional release exercises.
Through the process of engaging with ourselves in this way, using the voice to connect to our more intuitive self, we can bypass the mind, which can be one of our greatest enemies. The mind can keep us locked in all manner of unhelpful patterns and limiting ways of thinking and behaving. Connecting to the voice in this way also enables us also to move beyond words to pure sounds. Trying to name an experience, memory or feeling using words can very often limit us in expressing the real depths of our emotions.

About your Practitioner
Caroline Barnes
I am a qualified Counsellor and accredited member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists with over ten years experience working within a variety of therapeutic settings with a broad range of issues. I currently work in further and higher education as well as private practice.
I am also a qualified Therapeutic Voice Practitioner and Sound Therapist.
My particular theoretic approach is informed in the main by the humanistic and transpersonal psychologies to which I also integrate my qualifications in therapeutic body work. This enables an integrated approach, allowing for exploration of Body, Mind and Spirit.
My own interest in the spiritual dimension of life, that is, the 'bigger picture' has been a life long interest and passion which has led me along a number and variety of pathways exploring esoteric teachings. I have a particular interest in ancestral wisdom, acknowledging our ancestral lineage, the Divine Feminine and the ancient teachings of the feminine mysteries and earth based traditions.
In more recent years I have been studying the world of vibration, sound and voice.
Since qualifying as a Sound Therapist in 2006 and exploring the therapeutic use of sound on the body mind system, I went on to train in voice therapy, which had long been calling my attention. During this time I was very fortunate to work with many truly inspiring teachers, studying a variety of vocal techniques including chanting, toning and over toning.
I have since completed a further two year international training with Karina Shelede and her pioneering method of therapeutic voice work, Soul Voice.
This training has provided me with an integration of all my previous studies and I feel truly passionate about this profound and dynamic approach to healing.
The Rhythm of Life is set within a beautiful rural landscape near Canterbury in Kent.
