ABOUT THE ABBEYFIELDS CLINIC

The Abbeyfields’ Clinic Team has a mixture of Osteopaths, Physiotherapists and Sports Therapists to get you the specialist treatment you require.

We will never try to sell you a large number of treatments up front. We would rather that we get you better as quickly as possible and have you recommend our expertise and professionalism to your friends, colleagues and family.

Degenerative conditions often respond well to maintenance treatment but we try to keep them as infrequent as possible. For all patients, even those that have been discharged, we provide an opportunity for ongoing advice via email or phone if needed.

OUR TEAM

James Woledge
Principal Osteopath

James is registered with the General Osteopathic Council and member of the British Osteopathic Association. Having qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 2003 he took an associateship at Stowmarket Osteopaths.

His time is now shared working within a GP practice and Abbeyfields. He has enjoyed periods of undergraduate and postgraduate lecturing, particularly in areas of sports medicine as he combines his clinical knowledge with his previous degree/career in exercise physiology and health management.

His interests include persistent and complex pain syndromes, sports injuries and biomechanics, childhood ‘growing pains’, headaches/pain, and foot problems.

He is also keen to emphasise the traditional mixed approach he uses in combination with evidence based practice gleaned from his 11 years in a GP practice and numerous postgraduate courses. He is a member of the British Osteopathic Association and the British Medical Acupuncture Association.

The focus of his day to day practice is making sure his patients leave having; a clear understanding of their problem, knowing how best to care for themselves, how long recovery might take, and what he might offer in addition to help the recovery.

Jo Woledge
Beauty and Skincare therapist

Jo is both Practice Manager and runs the Wellbeing side to the clinic. With over 20 years in the Health and Beauty industry she is the driving force behind the success of Abbeyfields.

As a Beauty and Skincare therapist with more than 20 years experience, Jo’s focus is on providing bespoke treatments and self care strategies to ensure healthier and more youthful looking skin. From the younger client with problem skin to those that want to tackle premature ageing Jo offers a truly individual approach that can offer both immediate and long term benefits.

Jo offers pragmatic solutions supported by best evidence care rather than the latest passing trend, and is committed to ensuring you see results as quickly as possible.

Tom Palmer
Chartered Physiotherapist

Tom worked for 8 years in marine engineering before retraining in physiotherapy and qualifying in 2007, and has since worked exclusively with musculoskeletal conditions.

Alongside a full time NHS role in Hampshire he also spent three years at Southampton Football Club as academy physiotherapist, managing elite athletes from acute pitch side injuries right through to advanced functional rehabilitation. His work in the academy setting continues part time for Ipswich Football Club in addition to his role as senior physiotherapist at the West Suffolk Hospital.

Tom also utilises acupuncture as an addition to traditional treatment and rehabilitation techniques for acute and chronic conditions. He is able to assess and help manage any pain problem you may have and offers a dynamic, friendly and personal approach to his patient care and prides himself on being able to achieve an informal yet professional clinical environment.

Ruth Haskew
Sports Therapist

Ruth Haskew qualified with a Diploma in Sports Therapy and Massage in 2012 and had developed an interest in the moving body during formative years spent training and competing nationally in Tae Kwon Do. Her own abilities and injury recovery were aided by Rolfing, Deep Tissue Massage and Osteopathy. To this end Ruth embarked on a Degree in Osteopathy in 2010 at the Prestigious British School of Osteopathy. She is an excellent addition to the clinic as she can combine her growing knowledge in musculoskeletal medicine with excellent hands on massage skills.

TESTIMONIALS

"I suffered from heel pain and Achilles tendonitis for about 8 months. I consulted various health professionals who gave me exercises and orthotics, all to no avail. On recommendation I visited Podiatrist Julie Llewellyn who after 2 initial treatments referred me to James for Shockwave treatment.

Finally health professionals who know what they are talking about!

After 3 sessions of Shockwave treatment I am back to playing 4 games of badminton in a morning and walking several miles.

I thoroughly recommend James and the shockwave treatment at Abbeyfields."

"I recently saw James Woledge having suffered with Achilles tendonitis for over one year. I had previously tried various other treatments which hadn’t helped. I had three sessions of Shockwave treatment and within a short period of time I was back to normal. I would highly recommend this treatment but I would say sooner rather than later – don’t leave it as long as I did!"
Sarah C RGNfrom Stowmarket

"I first consulted James in November 2008 when my then 15 year old son suffered a rugby injury (which turned out to be severe whiplash). He successfully treated my son and provided sensible additional advice and recommendations to assist him to avoid future injury.

I subsequently saw James for treatment myself – from late 2008 until my hip replacement operation in September 2009 I saw him monthly and his treatment helped to keep me mobile prior to my operation – he also recommended an orthopaedic consultant who specialised in treating younger people with hip problems, with the result that I did not end up having to wait years for a replacement operation due to my (young?!) age.

I continue to consult James, on an irregular basis, and can only say that the treatment and advice that he provides is always very helpful and effective.

I have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone requiring osteopathic treatment/advice."
