About Me

I am a midwife and continue to work part-time in the NHS. I also work part-time as a Clinical Hypnotherapist, Hypno-Analyst and HypnoBirthing® practitioner and am currently studying for my Masters in Midwifery.

My practice of HypnoBirthing® made me want to further my skills in Hypnotherapy, and so I undertook a Hypnotherapy Professional Practitioner Diploma Course. I have also experienced Hypnotherapy myself for weight management and during my IVF treatment. On both occasions I have found hypnotherapy extremely effective. It is a relaxing experience which has left me feeling more in control of my life and given me skills in stress management that I can use time and time again. The School I studied at is accredited by leading UK professional associations and consists of a post-graduate supervision programme devised by a leading professional in the field. I have experience in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy), Educational Kinesiology, Stress and Nutrition. I am a member of the associations found on the links page and am fully insured against public liability and professional indemnity.

I first encountered HypnoBirthing® as a midwife working in the Private sector. I was amazed at the wonderful births that HypnoBirthing® women experience. I believe, and have witnessed, that through learning breathing techniques, visualization, relaxation and gaining a trust in your body’s ability, you can have a wonderful birth which you feel in control of. I firmly believe in the ability of the female body to birth a baby naturally, and whilst I fully recognise the benefits of our health care system, the majority of women are able to birth their babies quietly and confidently without interference. I used HypnoBirthing® in April 2010 when I gave birth to our first son, Jack, at home after a 3 hour labour! I found the techniques enabled me to be relaxed and calm through the initial 2 day ‘pre-labour’ so that I was rested, and trusting in my body’s ability to birth my baby. Jack is a very calm, relaxed baby who sleeps well and breastfed like a dream! HypnoBirthing® also enabled my husband to be positive and calm. He felt confident and relaxed during the labour, and bonded immediately with Jack.

I am married to Kevin and we have an ageing Springer Spaniel called Sweep. I enjoy socialising with my friends, reading, walking, cycling and camping. If you have any questions, or wish to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis is often confused with being asleep. However, whilst it often appears that the hypnotised person is asleep, they most certainly are not asleep. It is a deep state of relaxation when the subconscious part of the brain can be accessed, therefore allowing change to occur. Most people do not realise that hypnosis is a very natural state, that most of us go into at least twice a day – as we are waking from sleep, and as we go into sleep. Other people daydream which is hypnosis, and some people find that when they are driving a well known route, they get to their destination and are unable to remember getting there – this is also hypnosis.

Hypnobirthing

For most of their lives, women have been inundated with the negative stories of other women’s birth experiences. Everyone, from their mothers, sisters, aunts, cousins, friends, and even strangers, wants to tell them the horrors of giving birth. They have been conditioned to believe that excruciating pain is associated with birth; and because of this, women today hold an unprecedented fear of giving birth. This extreme fear causes their bodies to become tense, and that tension often prevents them from easily performing the normal, physiological function of birth. The result?—exactly what they feared most--long, painful, disappointing birthings.

People who are drawn to HypnoBirthing® have long been searching for a way that helps women give birth as calmly, safely, and gently as possible. Until HypnoBirthing® was founded, it seemed almost unattainable.

Through a very simple program of self-hypnosis and education, women learn to release emotions tied to fear-based stories and misinformation, and they are helped to see birth as normal. They learn to trust that their bodies know how to bring their babies into the world in the calm and gentle way that Nature intended.
