Welcome to Back In BalanceBack In Balance is a nutritional therapy practice run by Cathy Tiret. Her aim is to optimise health by advising the best intake of nutrients to allow your body to be as healthy as possible.
Because your needs are unique, the advice will take into consideration your Body Mass Index (BMI), your lifestyle, your medical conditions and your diet.
Cathy will share knowledge that will help you to manage your bodies and enjoy a balanced and positive life. She will also explain which foods are better for you and according to your condition.
Prepare yourself for a life change and start eating to live rather than living to eat.
About the TherapistAfter 13 years of experience across a broad range of multi-lingual commercial working environments, Cathy spent 4 years in India on a career break. She is also an independent distributor of very high quality pure Aloe Vera products from Forever Living.
She is fully insured. As a therapist I am bound by a code of Professionalism and Ethics. Confidentiality and client care are always of utmost important.
Nutritional Therapy
It is safe and gentle complementary therapy that is often used alongside conventional medicine. Nutritional Therapy is aimed at ensuring an individual has the best possible diet and lifestyle for them – giving them optimum health and well-being. It encourages the body to be healthy and work efficiently by introducing a dietary approach that may be maintained over a long period – preferably for life – thereby allowing us to enjoy our lives to the full. It is one of the fundations of good health. This does not mean we have to be hungry, irritable or never eat our favourite foods again.
If we look after our bodies we should feel good and rarely feel ill. However, there are many inhibitors to good health in today’s world – pollution, processed foods, stimulants, stress, lack of exercise and ourselves in our choice of food.
All of these put a strain on the body, causing it to complain or malfunction.
What we eat and drink affects all bodily functions. Applications of Nutritional Therapy are:
- Allergy or food intolerance
- Depression or mood problems
- IBS, bloating, constipation, diarrhoea
- Lack of energy, tiredness, stress or poor immunity
- Asthma or eczema
- High cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes
- Arthritis, osteoporosis, gout or musculoskeletal problems
- PMS, menopausal symptoms
- Weight control (loss, gain)
- Sports nutrition
- Healthy eating advice: children
When the bodily functions are disturbed or out of balance this can lead to symptoms that cause disease. Cathy will encourage the client to use the eatwell plate (Food Standard Agency) to help ensure everyone receives consistent messages about the balance of foods in a healthy diet.
What to expect?Step 1 – Free, no-obligation mini-consultation
A fifteen-minute telephone consultation enables Cathy to get a feel for your key health issues, and gives you the chance to ask questions before making your first appointment.
Step 2 – First Appointment
The first stage is to fill up a questionnaire and a weekly diet analysis. These documents will be sent to you when the 1st appointment is agreed. These 2 documents will need to be sent back to Cathy a week before the initial meeting.
During the 1st consultation Cathy will ask you questions about your health, diet, conditions and lifestyle and a dietary programme will be agreed. This programme is designed to fit your tastes and lifestyle. Most of the time the changes are simple but you must come prepared to try something new. Occasionally supplements are recommended.
Step 3 – Follow-up consultation
The follow-up consultations take about an hour, during which Cathy assesses the results of dietary changes. Adjustments to the programme are made as necessary. Usually 2 to 3 follow-up appointments are required.
Clients are encouraged to phone regarding any queries.
“What I like the most about Cathy's advice is that she took into account not only my eating habits, but my lifestyle as well. She suggested some meals which were varied and recipe I had not tried before. It was all a lot of fun while she makes you feel that what you are going to eat is good for you. She made me realise that looking after what you eat is very important in life...your body is your best friend!”
Sandrine, 36 - Paris
“Being a fussy, lacto-ovo vegetarian I was pregnant with my second child when I visited Cathy. I wanted to make sure my baby and I were getting the optimum nutrients. I always thought I had a healthy diet with lots of fruit and vegetables but Cathy's guidance enabled me to see that I did have nutritional gaps in my meals. I found Cathy very approachable and a good listener, with her help and patience we put together an eating plan to ensure I was getting an all round balanced diet. I have continued with her recommendations following the birth of my baby and feel I am still reaping the benefits from her advice”.
Sarah, 33 – Maidenhead
“I approached Cathy to help me preparing the menopause without the use of HRT. I found her very receptive and her approach is very smooth. We worked together to put an eating plan to optimise my diet. She gave me recommendations, menus, supplements to help reducing menopause symptoms as well as minimising bone loss. Her different recipes were fun to follow. I have continued with her recommendations and I am feeling more confident at the approach of this big change.”
Lucy, 51 – Farnham
Holistic Massage
Holistic massage is an ancient discipline used to improve health and well being by treating the mind, body and spirit. It complements traditional medicine in the treatment of specific conditions and symptoms, and offers relaxation from our often hectic lifestyles.
Massage is the therapeutic application of touch using a range of movements or strokes upon the skin, muscles and joints. It has significant benefits for all the body’s essential systems. It improves circulation, bringing fresh oxygen and nutrients to the body cells, helping to eliminate toxins and releases muscular tension or stress.
The benefitsThere are many therapeutic benefits to massage. For example, it can help to:
- Calm, sooth and relax the body, releasing tension from the muscles
- Improve and strengthen the body’s circulation
- Remove toxins and waste
- Improve skin and muscle tone
- Improve digestive function
What to expect in treatmentMassage treatments are tailored to meet the individual needs of each client. A brief consultation is essential to better understand those needs, the symptoms and conditions presented and the client’s preferences. All personal information is treated in confidence.
The duration and frequency of treatments is a personal choice for each client. Many clients discover that the treatments are so beneficial that they return on a weekly or monthly basis.
Massage is typically performed upon a massage couch. The treatment requires the client to remove clothes to the level of undergarments. However, modesty is maintained at all times. The therapist uses special oils to nourish the skin and improve the flow, using massage movements.
Following the massage session, the client and therapist will review the session, discuss any future needs and provide aftercare advice.
Safety precautionDespite the benefits of massage, there are certain medical conditions where massage may not be appropriate.
These include:
- Cardiovascular conditions such as heart disease, thrombosis and phlebitis
- Any kind of lump and swelling on the body
- The first three months of pregnancy
- Cancer
If you are in any doubt, or if you are under medical supervision, check with your doctor or other medical qualified practitioner before embarking on massage.
