What is Yoga
Yoga originated in India over 2000 years ago. Yoga can be described as the union between the Mind and the Body. The word Yoga means “unity” or “union” and is derived from the Sanskrit work “yug”, which means to join. Over the centuries, as its influence has spread, Yoga has been valued as a discipline that contributes to physical health, psychological well-being and spiritual development. It is a journey of self-discovery. There is a variety of ways to approach the ultimate goal of Yoga. There are many different types of Yoga. They include Jnana, Karma, Bhakti, Raja, Hatha, to name just a few.
Hatha Yoga describes the physical practice of Yoga. It includes the practice of postures (Asanas) , deep breathing (Pranayama), relaxation and meditation.
On a physical level, it will improve your posture, strength, balance and stamina. It will also help to free your mind from stress. It will bring balance and harmony in your life. It will help you greatly to withdraw from the chaos of the world and find a quiet space within.
Yoga is for everyone, regardless of age, size, shape and levels of fitness. During the postures, the body is gently placed in all directions. Every muscle is stretched and toned. The internal organs are massaged, improving their general function. The joints in the body are freed and the spine is encouraged to become aligned. The circulation is improved and the breathing capacity is greatly enhanced.

Holistic Massage
This is an effective aid to relaxation ; massage helps to smooth away stress, unknotting tense and aching muscles and aids sleep. A holistic massage is also invigorating ; it can improve the functioning of many of the body’s systems, promotes healing and tones muscles, leaving you with a feeling of renewed energy. The therapist uses a range of different movements and techniques which can improve mobility and increase flexibility.
Relaxing and revitalising, this treatment not only feels good, it promotes general health and well-being.
Indian Head Massage
This form of therapy uses and adapts classic massage techniques for treating the scalp, face, neck, shoulders and upper arms. It is based on the Ayurvedic system of healing, which has been practised in India for over a thousand years.
It is extremely effective for relieving tension caused by stress and poor posture.
This treatment is performed whilst the client is in a sitting position. The client remains fully clothed. Massage oil is not used for this type of treatment.
Reflexology
What is reflexology?
This therapy focuses on stimulating reflex points on the feet and/or the hands to maintain good health. Pressure is applied to the feet or hands to promote well-being and health. This is the holistic practice of treating points and areas in the feet and hands that relate to corresponding parts of the body. Reflexology may improve circulation and induce relaxation.
Many factors including stress, tension, anxiety, poor diet, environmental pollution and lack of exercise, can have a negative effect on our natural energy state. Reflexology will help release tension and give a profound sense of well-being.
Please note: Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeking medical advice.
About Me
My first experience of Yoga, was when aged 7, I found a book at home, with pictures in black and white of Asanas (Yoga postures). I remember trying to replicate the various postures.
I joined my first Yoga class, when I was 20 and I have practiced Yoga ever since. I love how Yoga makes me stronger and calmer. I feel connected to my feelings and to the people around me. The benefits of Yoga are spiritual and physical. Yoga gives me inner calm, strength and confidence.
One of my Yoga teachers, who trained in the style of Iyengar, also organised many Yoga seminars and taught pre and post natal Yoga. She inspired me to become a teacher. Yoga helped me and supported me during both pregnancies and the birth of my children.
I have got a keen interest in Holistic therapies and became a qualified reflexologist in 2001. I then went on to study Holistic Massage and Reiki.
