Transcendental Meditation

Transcendental Meditation (TM) was brought to the world by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi over 50 years ago and has been learned by five million people.

Transcendental Meditation unfolds the full potential of life and extensive research has found it reduces stress and anxiety resulting in more inner peace, creativity, health, success and happiness.

Learn to meditate

Transcendental Meditation is a simple, effective mental technique which allows the mind to transcend and settle to the simplest, most powerful state of awareness. It does not involve any effort, mental control or active thought process.

Contact Liz on 01420 476000 or hampshire.uk@tm.org to book a free introduction to TM.  See dates below.

Authentic

Maharishi Foundation® has been teaching Transcendental Meditation® in the UK for over 50 years and Liz Court is certified by the Maharishi Foundation as a teacher of TM. “I have been teaching Transcendental Meditation since 1970 and it is a privilege to teach Maharishi’s knowledge and a great joy to see the changes that take place in the people after they learn. You are actually learning Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation and not a look-alike.” —Liz Court.

Free introduction to TM

Free introductory talks on Transcendental Meditation are held regularly over Zoom. Please see below.  There are now two ways of taking the course to learn the technique.  The traditional way consists of four 1.5 hour sessions, over four consecutive days, a session ten days later and we fully recommend the free 6 month course (one session a month) after taking the training.

The second way is with the support of a Teaching App.  The first day is always face to face and one to one when you learn your sound and how to use it.  The next three days and tenth day you use the Teaching App with a link up with Liz in the evening for a meditation check.  We fully recommend the 6 month course (one session a month) after taking the training - the fee is included in your original course fee.

Quotes from Meditators

“Life is much more peaceful and I am much happier ….” – Kiri

“Worry and stress are but a butterfly in my mind flickering in and out in an instance…” – Paul

“I’m a lot calmer inside and feel less anxious, wound up and stressed ….” – Sandra

“This has been the best birthday present I could ever have received!”
“I am a committed meditator with my wife saying I am “nicer to live with”. I have more energy. Getting up early to do my 20 minutes is no problem. This 20 minutes is worth at least 40 minutes in terms of brain resting time.

“After my 20 minutes evening meditation I feel very refreshed and am able to work later. Decision making in my job is now easier and I am no longer ‘scratchy’ and irritable. The pressures are still there but I am now able to deal with them and control them. My irritable bowel symptoms have all but disappeared so that I no longer take any medication. I am now at the stage of actively recommending it to my colleagues, my friends and also my patients.” – Dr. D.W. Robins, Consultant Anaesthetist

TM was my 40th birthday present to myself. It was the best thing I have ever learnt and the best gift as well! At that time my life was very scrambled and I had a lot to sort out. I needed to be able to focus and use my brain better. I wanted promotion at work and it just wasn’t coming my way. Life was very frustrating. With regular practice of Transcendental Meditation my life slowly came together and changes came too. I was noticeably more peaceful, focused and my brain worked better. This incredible brain that no one had ever taught me how to use was working better!! Soon I was promoted and over the years I have noticed many other great changes in me. I have better patience and emotional intelligence probably stemming from an increased self-knowledge. I hope I am a better person and certainly I am having a more rewarding and happier life which again leads to more satisfaction. This in turn has given me a better life work balance.” – Sally Toye, Dreamliner Airline Captain

“Insomnia and foggy thinking are now history, life is so much calmer and I am not so ‘hyper’ anymore. Therefore, stress levels have dropped so much, in such little time! TM is a wonderful tool; it would have been ideal to have done the course in my teens, but better late than never!” – Gillian Cobb

"Wellness and stress-reduction programmes vary widely in their effectiveness. As a researcher,
what I find most intriguing about Transcendental
Meditation is the vast body of 40 years of research showing very powerful long-lasting reductions in stress and stress-related illness. TM is also easy to learn and pleasant to practise—so people stay with
it. For this reason TM is probably one of the most cost-effective programmes out there.” - Norman Rosenthal, MD

"I am happier and more creative now than I ever would have imagined. I just wish I had started to meditate years ago, but I never realised it was something that you can be taught! What a joy it has been to learn TM—it’s such a beautifully easy and natural technique.” - Mindy Weisel

"Transcendental - Meditation simple, etfortless way to dive within, to experience an pocan of pure consciousness, pure creativity, pure knowingness. It's a unique experience but also very familiar-is your own Self. I have never missed a medication in 34 years. I meditate once ta the morning and once in the afternoon for about do minutes each time. Then I go abour the business of my day. I find the joy of the 'doing' increase Creativity increases, Intuition increases. The plewsare of 1ife grows. And negativity recedes." - David Lynch

"When you meditate, job seness affects you less, and that has immediate benefits for your health and happiness, It naturally follows that you enjoy your work more, are more prodhctive, and find it casier to get along with co-worken. But equally important, you don't carry stress horne from the office. You have better relationships with your family and friends, and you enjoy your life more. It's clear from the research that spending a fem minutes twice a day to practise Transcendeneal Meditation is extraordinarily belpful in achieving balance berween your work and the rest of your life." - Nancy Lonsdorf, MD

Dr Tony Nader MD PhD MA RR was named by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi before his passing, as the next in line of the Vedic Tradition of Teachers

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

“The potential of every human brain is unbounded, infinite. Everyone is equipped with the physical machinery in his brain physiology to experience through Transcendental Meditation that level of intelligence which is the ocean of all knowledge, the ocean of all energy, intelligence, and
bliss.”

—Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of Transcendental Meditation

What is Transcendental Meditation?

John Hagelin, PhD, is a world-renowned quantum physicist, educator, author, and a leading researcher on the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique for the individual and society. Dr Hagelin is Director of the Institute of Science, Technology, and Public Policy at Maharishi University of Management, and International Director of the Global Union of Scientists for Peace.

The Transcendental Meditation (TM) technique is a simple, effortless technique for improving all areas of life. The technique is easily learned and is practised sitting comfortably in a chair with the eyes closed for 20 minutes twice a day.

What happens when you meditate?

During TM practice, the active thinking mind settles down naturally to a state of “pure consciousness” where the mind is silent yet fully alert. At the same time, the body gains a profound state of rest and relaxation.

What are the benefits of this experience?

This unique state of “restful alertness” develops the total brain and eliminates accumulated stress and fatigue. This experience is the basis for the increased creativity and intelligence and improved health reported by people who practise Transcendental Meditation.

Is there any scientific evidence to show that the technique works?

Yes. More than 600 scientific studies on the benefits of the Transcendental Meditation technique have been conducted at 250 independent universities and research institutions, including Harvard Medical School, Cornell Medical School, University of Michigan Medical School, and UCLA Medical School.

Has the research been published?

Yes. Research has been published in leading, peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals, including Scientific American, Science, the American Heart Association’s Hypertension and Stroke, and the American Medical Association’s Archives of Internal Medicine. Moreover, during the past 18 years, the National Institutes of Health has awarded over $24 million to study the beneficial effects of the TM program on heart disease, hypertension, and stroke.

To practise TM do I have to change my diet or adopt a particular lifestyle or religion?

No. The Transcendental Meditation technique does not require a lifestyle change. Introduced by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi over half a century ago, the TM technique has now been learned by over eight million people of all ages, nationalities, and religions. TM meditators report that the reduced stress and increased clarity of mind resulting from Transcendental Meditation practice have helped them to appreciate life more fully—and, for religious people, to follow their religions more faithfully.

Is it correct to say that all meditation techniques produce similar results?

No. There are striking physiological and neurophysiological differences between various meditation techniques. For example, EEG and brain imaging technologies clearly distinguish the TM technique from all other practices, showing enhanced EEG coherence and marked improvements in the all- important prefrontal cortex (the “CEO” of the brain), which governs such key executive functions as planning, decision making, problem-solving, and judgment.

Do other meditation techniques produce similar health benefits?

Many comprehensive meta-analyses of published studies on meditation and stress-reduction techniques clearly show that Transcendental Meditation produces highly beneficial effects for health that are not produced by other techniques. These include marked reductions in high blood pressure, anxiety, depression, insomnia, and other stress-related disorders.

I am a sceptic

Being sceptical is fine. Fortunately, no belief or change in beliefs is required to learn and practise the TM technique—and to gain all the benefits. In fact, you can be 100 percent sceptical and the TM technique will still work.

Letters from Rishikesh

This ebook takes the form of excerpts from letters Liz Court wrote to her mother during her period in Rishikesh, India, when she trained as a teacher of Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. The epub version includes authentic photographs and sounds which will add to the flavour of this special time and place.

“When those of us who were with Maharishi in Rishikesh are no longer here, generations to come will always ask the question, ‘What was it like to be with Maharishi in India?’”. – Liz Court © January 2019
