About Me
Alexandra Critten BA(Hons), DipPsych, MAR, PRM
I am a qualified, fully registered Reflexology Practitioner who works in a clinical therapeutic manner.
I was trained at the prestigious Inspira Premier Academy of Reflexology and Reiki.
I hold a Level 3 Diploma and Level 4 Qualification in Reflexology from the Inspira Academy, and am a full member of Professional Reflexology and the Association of Reflexologists. In addition I am qualified to Level 2 Reiki, also from the Inspira Academy.
I am available for appointments primarily in Barry, Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan and Pontypridd at Pontypridd Osteopathic Clinic.
My interest in alternative and complementary therapies spans many years. I have always respected the medical point of view, as we have a fantastic healthcare system, though I always thought about 'What else could help?' I have tried a number of Complementary Therapies and came upon reflexology in 2009. I wanted to see if it would help with issues relating to fertility that I was encountering, especially as my Husband and I were looking to start a family.
It was after having treatments and finding that they were not only wonderfully soothing and relaxing but also energising, that I wanted to train to become a Reflexology Practitioner myself. And here I am, 4 years on.
Special interests in the area of reflexology are musculo-skeletal issues particularly neck, shoulder and back pain and sports injuries; fertility, particularly issues relating to trying to conceive and pregnancy. Additionally, how Reflexology can benefit mental health, such as stress, anxiety and depression, particularly work related, given my background providing support to people living with mental ill health. I have experience of using Reflexology during palliative care for cancer and conditions such as multiple sclerosis.
About Reflexology
Reflexology is a natural, holistic therapy, which involves the practitioner using their hands to apply pressured techniques to specific points on the feet or hands. These are called reflex points.
Reflexology can be received by any individual, no matter what their age. It is suitable for newborn babies through to the elderly, as well as those receiving end-of-life support, plus everyone else in between! It is a very gentle therapy.
There are times when reflexology may not be appropriate, however this is occasional and will be discussed with you.
Reflexology does not claim to diagnose, cure or prescribe, also Reflexology should not be used in place of medical advice. Nonetheless, more and more health professionals, particularly doctors are recognising the many benefits of reflexology. Furthermore, with stress very much a part of the lives of many people, reflexology is a wonderful, soothing way of managing this.
There are many other conditions that reflexology can help with including:
- Digestive Disorders
- Muscular, Skeletal & Joint Pain - particularly sports injuries and neck & back pain
- Sleep Disorders
- Women's health, particularly conditions such as fertility related issues, hormonal imbalances & pregnancy
- Breathing Disorders
- Circulation Problems
