Joanne is a qualified Osteopath with 22 years experience.
I treat all ages, from babies two weeks old to patients in their early nineties. Treatment is given in a very informal and unhurried manner. Patients undergo a thorough case-history and examination, and a diagnosis is given and then treatment is carried out using a variety of gentle techniques. Advice and exercises are also given so that each person recieves a tailor-made service to help prevent problems recurring.

Meet Joanne Perkins
My name is Joanne Perkins and I qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1988. I worked initially in Norfolk for one year before returning home to Essex to start my own practice. In 1994 I got married and decided to re-locate to Cardiff to be with my husband who had studied in Cardiff and Swansea. We have two children Tomos (7) and Elan (5) and we have a black labrador called Ella.
After leaving college I have completed the following Studies:Two Cranial Courses at the British School of Osteopathy,Certificate in myo-fascial acupuncture,Certificate in Treating M.E.,Certificate in Strain-Counterstrain, Certificate In Hydrotherm massage, Certificate in Counselling Theory, Certificate in Counselling Practice, Current First Aid certificate
I have also completed a PGCE teaching qualification and teach Advanced Practice Skills on the Degree in Complementary Therapies at UWIC since 2006.
I have given talks to various mother and toddler groups and women's groups in Norfolk, Essex and Cardiff and have given interviews on Radio Wales.
Workwise I treat people of all ages, the youngest being two weeks old and the oldest 92! I use a lot of soft-tissue massage techniques (as much as 20 minutes out of a thirty minute session) as I believe that the soft tissues have to be loosened up before the joints can move efficiently, and any manipulation that we do is then much easier both for me as a practitioner to carry out, and it is more comfortable for the patient. It is also important as it helps any changes that are produced to be maintained. This is where we differ from the chiropractors who do more manipulation and very little massage and the physiotherapists use electrical machinery and exercises rather than a hands-on approach.
