Ashtanga is a vigorous, dynamic form of yoga and it would benefit those seeking strength, flexibility, a clear mind and an energy boost.
About Caroline
I have been practising Yoga for the last 10 years but struggled to find an Ashtanga class in Plymouth.
The reasons I wanted to practise Ashtanga was because it’s a far more dynamic form of yoga with predefined postures allowing you to focus on each posture.
In this way, it is somewhat different to the more static styles of yoga such as iyengar and hatha.
Whilst they develop flexibility and improve overall body composition, they don't help with cardiovascular training and endurance, and unless you consciously choose to use more 'power yoga' postures, they don't necessarily develop great muscular strength.
On the other hand, the benefits of ashtanga yoga include the ability to become strong and muscular in a relatively short space of time.
Have you tried yoga before?
Have the classes been too slow?
Are you looking for more of a workout?
My style is to make everyone feel that they are getting individual attention and I will assist all of my students, where appropriate, with a hands on approach allowing them to get deeper into a posture. I teach beginners to intermediates. You don't need to be an expert to come to my Ashtanga yoga class.
Class Information
How long is a class?
Each class will be 1 ½ hrs
What will the class cover?
Caroline will start each class with an opening Svasana (relaxation). She will then cover breathing techniques and move into the standing sequence from here. A select few of the seated postures will be practiced prior to the closing sequence, finishing with one of her popular closing Svasanas.
Prices
Caroline will be running her classes in 5 week blocks. The cost will be £7 p.w. if you pay in advance for a 5 week block (£35) (No refunds are offered unless exceptional circumstances) or £8 for a drop in class. Caroline will charge £5 for a taster session if you would like to try a class before you commit.
Private one on one classes are available at clients’ homes or other venues at a charge of £35 per hour or £45 for 1 ½ hr classes (within a 5 mile radius of Plymouth, an agreement regarding cost for further than 5 miles will be discussed on each individual case). The 1 ½ hr is recommended for Ashtanga.
Please always ring in advance to ensure there are enough spaces in class. If you have your own mat it would be helpful to bring it. Caroline can supply a mat until you have decided to commit to a class.
Individual Tuition
If class times are not suitable for you or you may have an injury or medical condition, then Individual Tuition is ideal. Also it is an excellent way to firmly establish your own yoga practice.
Caroline can tailor the yoga to suit your needs and ability. It doesn't need to be Ashtanga Yoga; it could be a less energetic form or one that involves a greater degree of relaxation, breathing techniques and recuperative postures.
If you can bring together a group of people and you have a suitable venue (a room that can be clear of furniture) then Caroline can run short length yoga courses ranging from 40 minutes – 1 1/2 hour per session.
