Independent, Confidential Face-to-Face Counselling, psychotherapy near Altrincham & Didsbury.
Day & Evening Appointments: Emotional Support to Reduce Personal Suffering AND Enhance Psychological Growth.
There are many reasons why you might be considering counselling & psychotherapy, often relating to past, present, or future situations or experiences in your life. For some, the reason isn't clear, but they are aware of needing some form of emotional and psychological support.
The aim of my work is to release your psychological distress, bringing you into closer contact with your own 'inner' potential, and for this to be expressed more openly in the world.
The following shows some of the reasons people come and see me for therapy:
- anxiety or depression
- stress & problems managing life
- alcohol, drug, behavioural addictions, obsessions and compulsions (compliments 12-step work)
- functional / unexplainable illness
- meaning & purpose / existential issues
- emotional, physical & sexual abuse and traumas
- grief
- problems involving relationships
- sexual/gender identity
- sexual performance / activity
- life & career directions
- self exploration

In the therapeutic relationship I place a strong emphasis on respecting individuals' differences, aware of the potentially negative impact family, society and culture can have on how each person feels about themselves.
Therapy as an act of Love & Courage.
Of central importance to the way I work is the therapeutic relationship and I believe that acting on the need for appropriate emotional and psychological support is one of the most loving and courageous acts that each of us can do for ourselves. As Martin Buber said, it is when we are each fully seen and heard truly by another human being, that we receive the confirmation we need to face the uncertainty, the in-security, which is so much part of human life.
Services I Offer .
I offer one-to-one therapeutic counselling. Weekly sessions last for 50 minutes, at a therapy setting in Didsbury, or from my home near Altrincham. Daytime and evening appointments can be available.
What happens next?
Please telephone me (07506 924801) or send an email to YouAreYourself@Yahoo.com so that we can have an initial conversation to find out more about your reasons for starting therapy and arrange an appointment. If you felt comfortable working with me then we would confirm a weekly appointment time.
How much does it cost?
The charge for each session is £35.00. This needs to be paid in full at the end of each appointment. The number of sessions is not limited so that there is plenty of space and time for your own therapy process to naturally unfold.
I appreciate that starting therapy involves a financial cost which not everyone can afford. I do try and meet peoples' differing levels of ability to pay and in some cases can reduce my fee to £25.00 per session.

More about my way of working .
Each person coming to therapy will have had different experiences in life, and be looking for therapy to support them in different ways. Essentially, we are all unique human beings, something I aim to honour in our work together. Of fundamental importance is that together we create a safe, confidential and supportive place for you to respectfully explore the situations and experiences in your life for which you are seeking support, perhaps resolution and a clearer inner-direction for the way ahead.
My training in psychosynthesis counselling, which is a source of depth psychotherapy, acknowledges the complex relationships between mind and body through to soul and spirit, within ourselves, and as part of family, friends and community. Working flexibly, I can offer you a range of approaches to help meet your needs.
For alcohol/drug & behavioural addictions I use approaches which naturally compliment and support the model of Alcoholics Anonymous/12-Step Fellowships.
Through my training, life experiences and observation, I believe that each of us has at a core, a part that is fundamentally and inherently our own true self. Yet our upbringing, culture, social pressures and outer and inner experiences so often leads to a detachment from our inner self. So easily, we forget consciously of who we actually are, creating dis-ease in our every day life. This manifests itself in anxiety, depression, addictions, obsessions and compulsions, physical illness, to name a few, and reduces our capacity to develop healthy coping skills, when the inevitable stormy tides of life descend upon us.
My approach with therapeutic counselling is not to 'fix', or 'cure', or try and prevent tough times in peoples lives. This would be misguided, and would in fact detract from the very nature of living. Through our work together I help people develop a clearer understanding of themselves, to reconnect with their true self, and come to a place of been able to make clear, healthy choices about their current and future journey. Such directions need to be embedded in the realities of each persons existing circumstances, and the community and world around them. At times, much of the work is about honouring one's own experience and the true emotions to be expressed. Easy to say, and in reality, perhaps far more complex than words can express. In our work together I would hope to create an emotionally sensitive, supportive and empowering place for you to participate in this important work.
QUALIFICATION DETAILS
I trained through University of East London at the Psychosynthesis Education Trust, with a post-graduate diploma. I am a member of the British Assocation for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), my professional body, and follow their requirements for ethical practice. This includes regular clinical supervision and continuing professional education.
My experience in other areas of work has brought me in contact with a diverse range of people from business, the public sector, academic and voluntary settings, 12-step and support groups. My other qualifications, including a doctorate/PhD, and my travels around the world, extending to east Asia, have without doubt expanded my insights of life, enhancing skills and interest relevant to emotional and psychological work.
I have a wider interest in other forms of therapy to support psychological and emotional health. I am curious about the relationship between people, animals and nature, and have completed a certificate training in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy. Other interests include shamanic journeying and drumming, mindfulness and group/relational psychotherapy.
