Manual Lymph Drainage
Manual lymphatic drainage otherwise known as MLD Therapy or Lymph Drainage Massage is a special type of gentle massage, which encourages the natural circulation of the lymph through the body. It is now recognized as a primary tool in Lymphoedema management.
Hivamat 200 unit now being used with MLD and Therapeutic Massage.
Flower and Vibrational Essences
Flower and Vibrational Essences are the energies of flowers, crystals, trees, plants and/or environmental conditions which are preserved (usually in alcohol) and used to help the body heal itself naturally. The essences are intended primarily for emotional and spiritual conditions, including but not limited to depression, anxiety, insomnia and stress.
LaStone Therapy
LaStone Therapy is the "Original Hot Stone Massage". It uses water-heated Basalt stones and cooled Marble stones in a traditional massage setting to warm, relax and at the same time invigorate the body. It can be used to alleviate both chronic and acute symptoms.
Zero Balancing
Zero Balancing is a gentle, powerful hands-on method of balancing the body's flow of energy with the body's physical structure. It was developed by Dr Fritz Smith, an osteopath, physician and acupuncturist, with a respect for both Western and Eastern approaches to healing.
Therapeutic Massage
Therapeutic massage is the manipulation of muscles and the soft tissues of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort and stress. It incorporates the flowing elements of Swedish massage with more advanced techniques, which may involve deeper tissue work.
About Me
I have been a practicing and insured complementary therapist for over 10 years, originally training in Therapeutic Massage with the Maitri Foundation in Stroud, Gloucestershire.
Since undertaking that initial study I have added several other therapies to my repertoire.
I completed Dr Vodder's course in Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) with the North American Vodder School in 2000. This training is updated every two years to ensure adherence to the strict protocols and hand movements used in this treatment. My last update was in September 2009. I have also had the good fortune to complete a review course at the Foldi Clinic in Hinterzarten, Germany. I am a member of MLDuk, an organisation of qualified and accredited MLD practitioners promoting public awareness of this technique. As a member of this organisation a review every two years is required, as well as being insured to practice.
I worked in a busy lymphoedema clinic for over 5 years and have experience of treating cancer patients and individuals who have Primary and/or Secondary Lymphoedema. I also have training to use KinesioTaping (KT) which can be applied in conjunction with lymphoedema treatment.
My main certifying body is the Association of Physical and Natural Therapists (APNT) and as such am required to undertake 20 hours of Continuing Professional Development each year and to be insured to cover each of the therapies that I practice.
