Tinnitus is the sensation of buzzing, ringing, roaring or whistling sounds in the ear without an external cause and is often associated with hearing loss or impairment. A blocked ear canal, blocked Eustachian tube, ear infections, otosclerosis, Meniere’s disease, and trauma or injury, among other things can be associated with this condition. Besides the sound heard in the ear, other symptoms are dizziness, ear pain, a sense of fullness in the ear, and headaches. Tinnitus may be treated by masking the sound with another sound, medication, yoga, meditation, biofeedback, hypnosis, relaxation training, and acupuncture.
